AUSTRALIA'S AUKUS SUBMARINE BUILD! As Australia embarks on the largest Federal Project in our history the building of the AUKUS nuclear submarines and the logistics and manufacturing, sustainment hubs, the ports and naval assets to allow our subs to operate in our maritime borders, the USA ramps up capability with the Electric Boat Corporation and over 10,000 skilled workers! Australia will need to train a similar number of skilled workers and invest in manufacturing and industrial capability. A Domestic Nuclear Reactor build may also be undertaken in parallel with this great industrial revolution. I support Australia's AUKUS submarines, our alliance with the USA, UK, Canada, Japan, South Korea, European and Nordic partners. Australia shall not be schirkers when it comes to defending our interests and the interests of a democratic alliance in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and in the South China Seas. Peace through Strength.............we shall deliver! https://lnkd.in/g4VYiJ64

“The Integration of Offshore Operability Calculations and Installation Planning” by Gavin McClelland, SAIPEM Date: THURSDAY, 23rd MAY 2024 Time: 17:30 for 18:00-19:00 hours (duration approximately 1 hour) Venue: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, 8-9 Northumberland Street, London, WC2N 5DA Organiser: RINA London Branch Poster: Attached Meeting Type: In person and online Event Information: The naval architect’s task is often to calculate in what waves, wind and current an operation can be conducted in, or how a voyage will be slowed by waves, but how do those values affect the actual work? How important is the fact that you can only do the lift in 1m high waves? How much extra do we charge now the client has move the project to November and what does winning a project in Eastern Canada mean for our vessels schedule? - The talk will discuss how Saipem has answered these problems. I thought #canada was contemplating joining the AUKUS club. 12 subs is a good order and a pretty lengthy build programme. My thoughts on taking on such a programme……. With a long period since any procurement of this magnitude or complexity it’s imperative, when selecting a designer/yard, to ensure that not only the build technology and best practices are demonstrable but that the build can be independently verified during the construction process. Matts key points: Choose shipbuilders with extensive experience and a successful history in constructing submarines, particularly those capable of handling advanced technologies and complex construction processes. Select a shipbuilder with a strong reputation for reliability and high-quality workmanship. Evaluate past performance on similar projects, including adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards. Ensure the shipbuilder has modern, well-equipped facilities capable of meeting the specific requirements of submarine construction and has the capacity to handle the project’s size and complexity. Visit every yard on the shortlist. Evaluate the shipbuilder’s network of subcontractors to ensure all components meet high-quality standards and their ability to collaborate effectively with other contractors and stakeholders. Consider the cost-effectiveness of the shipbuilder’s bid while ensuring it aligns with quality expectations. Ensure the shipbuilder is financially stable to avoid potential disruptions during construction. Cheap isn’t always better… or cheaper! Engage reputable third-party inspectors to conduct regular and thorough inspections throughout the construction process, ensuring unbiased verification focused solely on maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Specify that the shipbuilder adheres to internationally recognized certification standards for quality & safety management and implement a continuous quality assurance program to monitor all construction phases. Maintain detailed documentation of all inspections, tests, and verification processes. Ensure transparent reporting of findings and issues, with a clear process for addressing any identified deficiencies; benchmark for future condition surveys. Oh and make sure there’s a robust inspection and maintenance programme way before the first boat is handed over. Materials degrade irrespective of delivery date! Identify potential issues that could affect construction quality and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring continuity and quality of construction. By carefully selecting a reputable and capable shipbuilder and implementing rigorous independent product verification processes, Canada can ensure the construction of its new submarine fleet meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance. #submarines #shipbuilding #shipbuilder #engineering

Focusing the main challenges in submarine construction The 8th Submarine Conference (SubCon) took place in Kiel from September 17 to 19, 2024. This year, the International Submarine Conference focused on global threat scenarios under the motto “Setting the Pace in Underwater Dominance”. PLATH S&I contributed to the discussion with a presentation on “Reliable Intelligence Systems in a Complex World”, looking to the future. ? One of the main challenges in submarine construction is the often very long time of up to 10 years between the start of design and delivery of the boat. As the technical possibilities develop rapidly, the overall system becomes increasingly complex. The long duration of such projects raises the question of whether technology should be delivered according to the original configuration or state-of-the-art. With this article, PLATH encourages discussion of these topics in this context: Obsolescence management, change and configuration management and the fact that technical progress does not stop after the start of a project. ?????? ???????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ?? ?????????????????? ???? ???? ???????????????????? ???????????? ?????? ?????????????????????? This will never be entirely possible because a submarine needs displacement, machines, and pumps to operate, but we can get as close as we can. Ports are expensive, Arctic ports 10x. That does not change the need, but the financing and the need for multiple parties and an understanding of the value. The fact that the 10% couldn’t be funded by Nome alone is wrong. There are multiple users that could be part of this that would make this a good investment. A much better investment for AIDEA than drilling rights on the North Slope.
