Crossroads in Catering: A Journey of Discovery ?? Fresh out of high school, I had a fiery passion for culinary creations – becoming a chef was the dream! But after an internship in a five-star hotel, I discovered my true love: food and beverage service. The artistry of plating was still there, but with the added thrill of creating memorable dining experiences. Fast-forward to campus placements. Securing a coveted management trainee role with a top hotel chain felt like the ultimate goal. However, reality hit - my experience landed me an associate position. Disappointed, but not defeated, I took a bold step: McDonald's. They offered a management trainee role, the chance to hone my leadership skills (as mentioned before, it was no cakewalk!). This experience, along with a thirst for deeper business knowledge, led me to pursue an MBA. The decision paid off - my career trajectory soared! Why share this? Friday, 14th June 2024; I finally made it Alhamdulillah! I once read that if you go into a baker's kitchen, you'll find that the dough rises better, the yeast ferments perfectly, the place always smells delicious, feels warm and inviting and the very thing that makes the place special is that food is made there. The baker isn't good because they descended from heaven to bake perfect croissants but because they love doing it. Whether you're a technician or a chef or a writer or a designer; you can be anything you want and the very reason that you don't choose a profession isn't that you CAN'T do it. You can be ANYTHING you WANT to be. Throughout the course of this degree, this is one of the most valuable lessons I've learned. You and I can be anything we want to be. Why we succeed in one or maybe two professions is because we love doing it or have some sort of emotional connection to it. That is what hooks us to it. So don't be scared. Failure and rejection should never send you down a spiral of despair, and trust me this is coming from someone who's been down that spiral multiple times, if you don't land that job or that internship or if you don't get that perfect GPA that's a sign that perhaps your calling in elsewhere. Possibly somewhere higher. Believe in yourself. And dive head-on into it. By the time you touch the surface, you'll be someone. #graduation
