Calling all bird nerds, plant nerds, and nature nerds! Homegrown National Park? is a grassroots call-to-action to regenerate biodiversity and ecosystem function by planting native plants and creating new ecological networks. THEIR MISSION To regenerate biodiversity and ecosystem function?because every human being on this planet needs diverse highly productive ecosystems to survive. CALL TO ACTION Catalyzing a collective effort of individual homeowners, property owners, land managers, farmers, and anyone with some soil to plant in…to start a new?HABITAT? by planting native plants and removing most invasive plants.??It is the largest cooperative conservation project ever conceived or attempted. THEIR GOAL Our initial goal is 20 million acres of native plantings in the U.S.?This represents approximately ? of the green lawns of privately-owned properties. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE We are at a critical point of losing so many species from local ecosystems that their ability to produce the oxygen, clean water, flood control, pollination, pest control, carbon storage, etc, that is, the ecosystem services that sustain us, will become seriously compromised.

Last night the Mizzou School of Natural Resources was a co-sponsor of Doug Tallamy's presentation on the Homegrown National Park effort, and I had the great privilege to introduce Dr. Tallamy. Biodiversity loss is a looming problem for we humans. For the uninitiated, the easiest entry point to this discussion is the Colony Collapse Disorder scare with honeybees of ~2006. Folks, this is an organization worthy of your time, whether you have hundreds of acres to spare for planting native species, or a single planter on the deck of your apartment. Help the bees, grow beautiful flowers, and mow less lawn. Where's the downside?

https://lnkd.in/d3V4MYG Aquarium Divers For Coral Society (ADFC) is #urging all dive clubs to come together to discuss the organization of at least one club trip for coral restoration a year. The foundations doing this work in Florida and the Caribbean are not enough to sustain this work on their own. We know this because our mission to help restore reefs is what we do. The data is strong to support #coralreefrestoration but to get ahead of coral decline we need #volunteer divers who are willing to put in the effort. Science is not enough to get the underwater work done. The coral crisis is real, it is not about saving these beautiful coral but keeping the ecosystem alive for healthy coastal environments. ?? The federal government recently announced plans to expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Advocacy from Indigenous community leaders, community activists, and environmentalists across Southern California led to this landmark decision to preserve public land and provide critical open space and equitable access to nature. ??♀?Expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument will promote equitable access to nature, safeguard a vital water source for Los Angeles County, tackle climate and biodiversity challenges, support national 30x30 goals, and honor the landscape’s culture and historical significance. ?? Alongside the Monument’s expansion, over $1 million in corporate, philanthropic, and state government support to ensure equitable access and recreation within the Monument was announced, a commitment that includes support from EGA member, Resources Legacy Fund.
