Another hurricane hit Florida this week. The storm impacted millions of people and brought damaging winds, storm surges, heavy rain and tornadoes. It was a devastating event for many Floridians, and my heart goes out to everyone affected. If you're able, consider donating to one of the many great charities supporting the recovery. Every bit helps as we work to rebuild. This very unfortunate event brings to mind the mantra we at DMS started back in 2020, during the early days of the pandemic. Protect Yourself Protect Your Family Protect The Business What do they tell you to do on an airplane when the masks come down in an emergency? Put your mask on first. Then, help others. Well, in situations like the one we just endured, looking after yourself and your family should come first because when you do that, it puts you in a great position to help others. Protect Yourself Protect Your Family Protect The Business On the business side, this is exactly why strong, connected teams matter. This past week, I saw the very best of our DMS team as everyone stepped up for their teammates facing mandatory evacuations, power outages and other challenges from Hurricane Milton. The team's commitment truly shined through, ensuring that those in need had the support they needed and that there was little for them to worry about at work. In times like these, it's clear how much we rely on each other personally and professionally. Together, we’ll continue supporting one another and staying connected through good and bad weather.

In moments like these, it's not just about battening down the hatches—it's about leveraging our collective capabilities to support those in the path of destruction. FEMA and local authorities are mobilizing resources, and we must also do our part, whether through volunteering, donating, or innovating solutions to help communities withstand and recover from such events. The devastation from Hurricane Helene is too much to fathom, especially to the families in the path. Recovery requires the help of the government, charitable groups, and businesses and individuals who can contribute money, resources, and time. It's brought back my memories of Hurricane Katrina in 2006. In early 2007, I was able to take a break from work and join rebuild efforts in New Orleans. It was really hard work, gutting flood-ravaged homes to prep them for a rebuild. Working within a zone of mass devastation is very challenging. It was often hard to feel that our group - mighty as we were - were moving the needle. We were able prep one house in about 12 hours while the entire neighborhood needed the same. One of our teams completed a house only to be told by officials that the structure needed to be torn down. And that's when your professional work lessons kicked in. This isn't about you. You worked as hard as you could to complete the group task on target, quickly accept the imperfections of the process and move on. You help keep team morale up. You take on new responsibilities on the fly to meet the goal, even if that's spraying bleach while wearing a plastic coveralls in NOLA heat. One day, we were able to meet the homeowner. Hearing what she went through to survive Katrina was enough to make us work harder. I'm planning on making a trip east at some point early next year to work with Habitat or WCK. Let me know if you want to join. Don't sweat a schedule that can't accommodate helping now or next month. Like Katrina, the Helene rebuild will likely take years. And it may take time for these communities to figure out how and when you can best help and where they can house you. For now, contribute what you can.

Heavenly Father, We come together in prayer for all those affected by Hurricane Milton. We ask for your protection over those who are in harm's way. Provide shelter for the displaced and comfort to those who have lost loved ones. Guide the hands of first responders, give strength to those offering aid, and instill hope in those facing destruction. In these difficult times, may your peace reign and your mercy be felt. We trust in your care. Amen. Hurricane Milton has been one of the strongest storms to hit the region in recent years, bringing catastrophic winds, severe flooding, and life-threatening storm surges. The hurricane, which reached Category 5 strength at its peak, has caused significant damage across the Gulf Coast, especially in Florida, where millions are facing the storm’s full force. As Milton moves inland, the extent of the devastation is still being assessed, but the need for help is already clear. The aftermath of the hurricane will likely require a large-scale relief effort, with countless homes and businesses in need of rebuilding, and entire communities needing support. Volunteers, donations, and continued support will be essential for the recovery process. Every bit of help—from food and water supplies to medical assistance—will be vital in helping those affected recover and rebuild their lives. Together, we can make a difference for those in need.

An important message from my client GoodrCo. With a death toll exceeding 130 and devastation sweeping across five states, Hurricane Helene has left countless families without the basic essentials needed to rebuild their lives. Millions are still without power, internet, clean water, or access to food, and in some of the hardest-hit areas, aid is being delivered by any means necessary. At Goodr, we've been committed to disaster relief since 2017, when we first sent an 18-wheeler full of aid to Houston for Hurricane Harvey. Now, with Hurricane Helene striking so close to home, we need your support more than ever. We’ve secured a warehouse and set an ambitious goal: fill four trucks with essentials like water, non-perishable food, household cleaning products, and baby supplies, and get them on the road to Augusta, Brunswick, Valdosta, and Asheville in the next week. I believe in showing up for others the way we’d want them to show up for us if we were in need. This is one of those moments. If you can’t bring donations directly to our warehouse, you can still help by scheduling an in-store pick up of your donation from Kroger, Publix, or Target in the 30349 zip code. Every bit counts. If your organization would like to host a collection, we’d be more than happy to coordinate pickup—just email us at [email protected]. Let’s come together and make a real difference for our neighbors in need. Our first stop is Augusta, GA—let's get these trucks rolling! #reliefdrive #disasterrelief #hurricanehelene #neighborsinneed #givingback #donate #fundraiser #neighborshelpingneighbors #showingup #bootsontheground
