MY KIDS COULDN'T GET INTO THE REAL ESTATE MARKET. HERE'S WHAT I DID TO SOLVE IT. As the President of Greenbilt Homes, I’m updating everyone on the completion of our model FlexPlex? with four floors of flexible space for living and rental income. We held the Grand Opening in November and since then there has been a steady stream of visitors who have come to see this innovation in affordable and sustainable housing. Once you see it, I think you’ll agree that it’s a solution to the housing crisis. It has been widely reported in the media and here's one article that tells the FlexPlex story: https://lnkd.in/grcCXKWb Now, here’s how I came up with a new affordable housing approach: I bought my first house at 22 years old. Today, the oldest of my kids is 36. None of the three have bought a home. I hope that by showing them the single-family lifestyle of the FlexPlex? along with the financial feasibility that rental income provides, they will think this is THE BEST ADVICE THAT DAD EVER GAVE THEM. ?? The FlexPlex? is the most flexible building I could imagine. It can quickly and easily convert from four 2-bedroom apartments to a Triplex, Duplex or single-family. And it can keep changing along with the owner’s needs! The FlexPlex? is also flexible in the lifestyles it supports. At one extreme, an owner has a ground-oriented unit with income from three other units. At the other end of the spectrum, this is a single family home that comfortably accommodates multi-generational families with up to four kitchens and eight bathrooms. One thing I’m NOT flexible about is building energy-efficient homes that have low operating costs and are low carbon. The FlexPlex is a will be a Net Zero building. My wife and I are moving into one unit in the model FlexPlex?. We’re working, but eventually the FlexPlex? can financially support retirement living. However, if one of the kids starts a family, I could see that we could be suddenly living in a multi-generational home which would be a dream situation for me.
