Transitioning to a civilian career? Identifying your transferable skills is crucial! Here’s how Veterans can effectively recognize and leverage their skills: -List all tasks and roles from your service. -Break down duties into core skills: leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and technical abilities. -Translate military jargon into civilian terms (e.g., "squad leader" to "team leader" or "supervisor"). -Use tools like Oplign, LLC, Purepost, Inc., or The ASCEND Collective to convert military experience into civilian job skills. -Highlight experiences where you led teams, managed projects, made strategic decisions, collaborated effectively, communicated well under pressure and adapted quickly to new environments. This process not only enhances your job search but also boosts your confidence as you transition to new career opportunities. Ready to take the next step? Feedback during the job application process is crucial, especially for veterans transitioning to civilian careers. As a transitioning veteran after an exciting and rewarding 21-year career in the US Coast Guard, I am witnessing the unique challenges faced when entering the civilian workforce. Constructive feedback is a game-changer. It provides insight into how we present our skills and experiences, helping to refine our resumes and interview techniques. More importantly, it helps bridge the gap between military and civilian job expectations, ensuring that our valuable and transferable skills are clearly communicated and understood. For employers, offering feedback is a way to support veterans in their transition, recognizing their potential and facilitating their growth. For veterans, accept the feedback with a sense of gratitude and willingness to grow. It’s a new world for us and we’ve been adaptive for a long time. Continue to thrive in the environment of change (don’t follow the advice in the meme ??). Let's work together to create a culture of constructive feedback, enabling veterans to thrive in their post-military careers. #VeteranEmployment #FeedbackMatters #JobApplicationTips #VeteranSuccess #CareerTransition
