My First AI Misconception: It’s All About Robots ??
When I first heard about AI, I pictured bots taking over everything. Jobs disappearing. Humans sidelined. (Hollywood really nailed that image!)
But after two months of working with AI in marketing, I’ve realized it’s nothing like that. AI isn’t here to replace us - it’s here to collaborate, assist, support and partner with us. Think of it as a toolkit designed to make us faster, smarter, and better!
Here’s what surprised me the most:
AI isn’t going to automate creativity. It will be freeing us from the mundane, time-consuming tasks so we can brainstorm/strategize in peace - the human stuff machines can’t do.
Take email personalization as an example.
Before AI:
→ Manually tweaking emails for different customer segments.
→ Writing generic messages that didn’t always hit the mark.
→ Hours spent rewriting, testing, and still hoping for better open rates.
With AI:
→ AI tools analyze customer behavior (browsing history, purchase patterns, preferences).
→ It creates personalized subject lines and content - like suggesting products the customer was eyeing last week.
→ Result? Open rates and engagement soar, and I have more time to refine the overall strategy ??
For instance, Klaviyo's AI functionality helped me craft hyper-specific follow-ups for customers who abandoned their carts. Instead of “Still thinking about it?” the email included the exact product and even a discount offer if purchased within 24 hours. The click-through rate doubled. ??
This week, I read an article that explores this idea in depth: "How Generative AI can augment Human Creativity" by Harvard Business Review (linked in comments) that breaks down how AI doesn’t replace jobs - it redistributes tasks, letting us focus on what machines can’t do. Creativity. Empathy. Connection ??
Key takeaway from the article:
AI works best as a partner, enhancing what humans do best. ?
So here’s my question for you:
What’s one misconception you’ve had about AI, and how has your perspective changed?
