?? Celebrating Sustainable Innovation: Domagoj Vida’s Black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm ?? The Black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm, nestled in the beautiful landscape of eastern #Croatia, has captured attention with its impressive architectural design by SKROZ architecture. Nominated for the prestigious Viktor Kova?i? Award, this project reflects a commitment to elevating organic farming practices and preserving Croatia's indigenous Black Slavonian pig breed, which faced near extinction in the 1990s. The farm is a testament to how sustainable initiatives can intersect with modern architecture to create functional and environmentally responsible spaces. Co-founded by Croatian football star Domagoj Vida, the farm focuses on organic practices, originally allowing pigs to roam freely outdoors. As the project developed, it embraced innovative architectural solutions, providing not only shelter but also optimizing breeding processes. The unique design incorporates movable partitions and a thoughtful layout that enhances the well-being of the pigs while respecting their natural instincts. This initiative highlights the importance of preserving heritage breeds and advancing sustainable farming methods. By combining modern design with traditional values, the Black Slavonian Eco Pig Farm stands as a model for future agricultural projects, inspiring others to explore environmentally conscious solutions in farming. ??? #SustainableFarming #Architecture #BlackSlavonianPig #EcoInnovation #Conservation #OrganicFarming #HeritageBreeds #Croatia #ArchitecturalAwards #AnimalWelfare #DomagojVida #swinefarming #pigfarm #pork https://lnkd.in/dzi3vmDz

Different sorts of crops are flourishing in a set of repurposed greenhouses in Amsterdam Nieuw West: Sopropo, kouseband, okra, Madame Jeanette and more! This is due to some residents of the local community, who bring invaluable gardening know-how from their home countries. They use this knowledge to grow crops that wouldn’t normally thrive in the Dutch climate. AMS Institute, in partnership with the Wereldgroentetuinen and Wageningen University & Research, supports these residents by providing access to unique urban gardening spaces. This Research hopes to highlight the power of culinary heritage and gardening skills in shaping an inclusive, sustainable food system in Amsterdam. ?? Key goals of the research include: ?? Supporting immigrant communities in sharing food knowledge and gardening techniques; ?? Influencing policy to recognize immigrants as powerful stakeholders in the food transition; ?? Expanding urban gardening opportunities to include a broader range of crops and cultures. “At the heart of this project is the connection between past and future,” says Antonia Weiss, Research Fellow at AMS Institute. “By mobilizing Amsterdam’s diverse culinary heritage, we can reshape our food system for good.” ?? ?? Spotlight On: Ruby Dartnall ?? Meet Ruby Dartnall, a superstar in our Customer Care team at Advance Landscape Systems! Ruby has been with us for over 6 months and has quickly become an integral part of our team. She was thrilled to join the planting day celebrating Matariki 2024. We asked her a few questions: 1?? What skill do you think everyone should learn? "Efficient and effective communication is crucial. It makes processes smoother and saves time when you don’t have to chase things up." 2?? What do you like the most about your job? "I love answering product questions! Horticulture was my favorite subject in school, so it’s fun learning about our products and helping customers find what works best for them." 3?? What is the best tip you can give someone on plant protection? "Consider your main concerns and requirements when choosing products. For example, to protect against hares, you need a plant guard at least 450mm high." 4?? What is on your bucket list? "Mostly travelling! I want to explore Wellington's food scene, visit Northland’s beaches, and see family and friends in Adelaide and Melbourne." #spotlightonruby #customercare #matariki2024 #horticulturelover #plantprotection #advancelandscapesystems #greenyourworld

We developed a product and launched it in the USA - New York City You should be aware that there are a lot of beekeepers in NYC. That's why I went there to meet them and talk about HiveReader. HiveReader is perfect for urban beekeeping, where apiaries are small (2-5 hives) and beekeepers are often hobbyists with limited time. By providing real-time insights and alerts, HiveReader ensures they only need to interact with their hives when necessary, saving time and effort. Its non-invasive monitoring minimizes disruptions, crucial in city settings, while the voice-assisted log simplifies record-keeping. HiveReader empowers urban beekeepers to manage their hives efficiently and sustainably, even with a busy schedule. ???? Thanks to Nicholas Hoefly for inviting me in his Honey workshop in NYC and let me know some insides from his work with the bees. Hope that we will collaborate with Nic and the NYC beekeepers in 2025 and with the help of SUAVE | Urban Agriculture we will bring the urban agriculture to the next level and spread it around the world. #HiveReader #suave #euroclusters #urbanagriculture #green #digital #innovation

After completing the site plan, concept plan, and concept design for the entire site, Steinberg Hart partnered with Starck Architecture & Planning to design the 53 for-sale units and with Tecture to design the restaurant, farm-stand interiors, and agricultural buildings, which includes a microbrewery. The northern portion of the project site will remain in agricultural use, serving as an organic farm operation.
Fox Point Farms, the first project from Nolen Communities, is officially a finalist for Community of the Year at The Nationals by NAHB! So incredibly excited for, and proud of, everything about this project. Thank you Shea Homes for nominating the project and bringing our vision to life in ways I never could have imagined. What is Fox Point Farms you ask? It's a 250-home "Agrihood" community centered around a regenerative farm that grows fresh produce and supplies the on-site market and restaurant. Designed to acknowledge and respect the agricultural history of Encinitas, the project reflects a farmhouse architectural theme, with timeless finishes complemented by immaculate landscaping. The project includes 210 market-rate homes, 40 affordable rental units, an agricultural amenity area that hosts a market, restaurant, public green and event greenhouse (yes, you read that correctly!), and the farm, in addition to trails and edible paseos. Want to know more? Reach out and let's take a tour!
