Virtual reality (VR) therapy uses a computer-simulated world as a treatment tool. A person might use it to practice new skills, face a fear in a safe environment, or become more confident in social interactions. VR therapy works by allowing people to act out, practice, or revisit situations in a safe environment. therapists originally used VR therapy to treat phobias, but over time, therapists have tried it for a variety of mental health conditions.such as phobia,PTSD,anxiety and depression social and emotional skills VR can provide a controlled space to try things that could be overwhelming or risky in real life, making it useful for exposure therapy #rehabilitation#virual reality#recovery tech#emotional#

Another in my series highlighting #vMed2024 presenters! This is another excellent piece by Skip Rizzo and colleagues! The focus is on examining the utility and #feasibility of a #virtualreality #VR program to assess #cognitive function in #multiplesclerosis. A VR classroom embedded with a continuous performance task(CPT) was assessed in 10 non-MS adults and 10 people with MS with low cognitive functioning. Participants performed the CPT with distractors (i.e., WD) and without distractors (i.e., ND). The Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT), California Verbal Learning Test—II (CVLT-II), and a feedback survey on the VR program was administered. The results suggest that people with MS exhibited greater reaction time variability (RTV) compared to non-MS participants, and greater RTV in both WD and ND conditions was associated with lower SDMT. VR tools warrant further research to determine their value as an ecologically valid platform for assessing cognition and everyday functioning in people with MS.

QUT is using virtual reality to add another dimension to its mental health services for students. A counselling pilot program is integrating virtual reality (VR) into services, offering students new ways to address a range of mental health issues such as managing public speaking anxiety and enhancing mindfulness practices. QUT (Queensland University of Technology) Manager of Counselling and Psychological Wellbeing Donald Crowley said the immersive nature of VR allowed for the creation of controlled environments that were incredibly realistic. Mr Crowley said using VR, therapists could create tailored environments that simulated real-world scenarios from the safety of the counselling room, improving accessibility while allowing a greater degree of control and customization. https://lnkd.in/gvP9nadi #studentcare #virtualreality #newsreel

VR Vs. Traditional Therapy: A Patient's Perspective Ever feel like therapy was stuck in the same old chair? I did. Traditional therapy sessions were helpful, but sometimes I felt like I wasn't making much progress. Then, I tried VR therapy, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer (literally!) Here's my experience: Traditional Therapy: Talking about my anxieties felt helpful, but it could get repetitive. Sometimes it was hard to truly visualize what the therapist was describing. Progress felt slow at times. VR Therapy: It was completely immersive! I felt like I was actually in a different environment, facing my fears head-on! VR made exposure therapy way more engaging. It felt more like an adventure than a chore! I saw noticeable results quicker. VR helped me confront my anxieties in a safe, controlled way. Don't get me wrong, traditional therapy has its place. But VR therapy added a whole new dimension to my treatment. It was fun, effective, and helped me break through some major roadblocks! What do you think? Would you be curious to try VR therapy?
