Today we kicked off our Little Black Dress Campaign! Each October, the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas participates in the “Little Black Dress Initiative” to bring awareness to domestic violence and symbolize just some of the struggles survivors and family members in this situation may have. Participants raise awareness around the limits that domestic violence can play on resources, options, and opportunities for employment; and the work that JLNWA is doing to help end the cycle of domestic violence by wearing the same black dress or outfit all week long. We invite you to join us this week!

Neighborhoods and communities matter. For many, they are the foundation for beautiful and meaningful connections. When connectedness occurs, safety is inevitable. Research has shown that healthy neighborhoods and communal conditions have a profound impact on Black children and their futures. Safe communities for Black children mean safe spaces, community cohesion, school connectedness, and neighborhood services. Safety is an essential part of life that inspires empathy, resilience, and empowerment. This election season safe communities are on the line. It is pivotal that we elect leaders at both the local and national levels who understand Black children and communities need safety to foster feelings of belonging and inhibit prosperity. Safety is the groundwork for a hopeful and bright future. Our vote must represent this belief for our Black children and communities to grow.

If the intent is to improve the service, did the writer consider that the questions may be framed in such a way that they defeat the object. Q1. Assumes that everyone one who experiences "service" will feel the same way. This ignores the fact we have independent minds. Q2. Suggests that the police don't recruit "black" people Q3. As the previous question related to black people, Implies that they are taken them less seriously than any other victim. Q4. If you have had a bad experience, with a question framed like this is, are you likely to assume that "all police" are unfair, disrespectful and inequitable. It suggest that the community experience is the same for all who have been in contact with the police. In the UK? If the intention of the Race Action Plan is to improve the service to communities then we the community, along with policing leaders should be asking is the intention here to progress or regress?

"The Black Liberation-Indigenous Sovereignty (BLIS) Collective, a new organization created in 2022, will issue its first report in January 2025. The study, titled “Fabric of Repair: The Impact of Braiding Narratives of Reparations and Land Back on Black and Indigenous Audiences,” reveals that while Black and Indigenous communities often prioritize their own issues, they are also likely to support each other’s reparative efforts when provided with sufficient information. Efforts to combine Black and Indigenous narratives will be long-term and generational — the kind of work that will be necessary to build solidarity. The growing national effort to fight for Black reparative justice policies is mostly taking place on the local level. Places like Evanston, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; Kansas City, Mo.; and New York State are studying the idea of reparation programs for Black Americans. As they build locally, these programs can note how Land Back and Reparations ideas work together." ???

If you're a white person or a non-Black person of color, I really don't believe that you should have Juneteenth off. (Dis)respectfully, today ain't about y'all, and it doesn't sit right with my spirit that while a bunch of you corporate professionals get to "celebrate", that there are plenty of Black folks who are not being afforded the same luxury and are being required to "keep the machine turning" or else risk the very real negative impacts of existing under capitalism. If you planned on taking the day to kick your feet up, and chill, I implore you to reconsider. There are more effective, and respectful ways for you to acknowledge and take action such as: - Opening up a book, and learning more on the history of today and it's significance. - Supporting organizations and/or groups that center the needs of Black folks. - Directly donating funds to not just the Black folks in your immediate proximity, but extending that act to strangers (ESPECIALLY IF THEY'RE AT WORK TODAY) - Contributing to mental health funds, or other resources that can help Black folks get what they need. - Having conversations with your org leaders to reconsider the ways in which they choose to acknowledge Juneteenth, to ensure that they're specifically targeting and offering support to their Black employees. It's really that simple!

As a long-time small business owner, I've witnessed the system's complexities firsthand linked to black businesses & political influence. The question arises: Are black businesses indeed flourishing to influence political choices? Many wonder if black-owned enterprises are securing significant government contracts. It's crucial to analyze if these opportunities translate into real empowerment. Many black individuals benefit from a flawed system and want to preserve their status quo: https://lnkd.in/gexhQF_z . However, the broader black community deserves transparent and equitable opportunities. Voting for black candidates should reflect genuine progress, not just symbolism, and we must engage in a dialogue that challenges and changes the existing narrative. Empowerment starts with awareness and collective action. Share your thoughts: The question is, how can we ensure equal opportunities for all businesses, including black businesses??

Freedom is a practice.
