A great example of fault detection and a simple, inexpensive fix is all it took to rectify! We noted that the overall velocity trending upwards in the axial plane with dominant 1x running speed peak with multiple harmonics of running speed evident in the axial velocity spectrum. We swiftly diagnosed an imbalance or looseness of the impeller. Initial inspection of the hold-down bolts found that they were torqued sufficiently, upon opening the fan casing we identified the rivets holding the impeller to the hub were loose, allowing axial movement. With the source of the looseness identified our client was able to put a plan to rectify in place.
