Today marks the beginning of Suicide Prevention Week at JE Dunn. The construction industry faces the second-highest suicide rate of all other industries. This week I'm reminded how important it is to foster open conversations and dialogue around suicide in such a physically and mentally demanding field. As a leader, maintaining the safety and well-being of our employees is crucial to me. At JE Dunn, we want to set the standard and encourage others to Speak Up for Suicide Prevention. ?? September is Suicide Prevention Month ?? Working in construction, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible dedication and resilience of those in our industry. But I’ve also seen the silent struggles that many face behind the scenes. The long hours, the physical strain, the stress of deadlines, and sometimes being far from family can add up and weigh heavily on our minds. It's heartbreaking to know that our industry has one of the highest rates of suicide. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s about our friends, colleagues, and loved ones who might be fighting battles we know nothing about. This month, and every month, let’s commit to looking out for one another: ?? Listen with compassion. Sometimes, all someone needs is to feel heard. ?? Offer a helping hand. Whether lending an ear or sharing resources, small gestures can make a huge difference. ?? Create a safe space. Let’s make it okay to talk about what’s going on in our hearts and minds. The month of September is Suicide Prevention Month. September 9th-13th is National Suicide Prevention week in the construction industry. Our industry has one of the highest suicide rates among all professions. An estimated 6,000 construction workers died by suicide in 2022, an increase from 2021, according to the most recent data available. That compares to around 1,000 who died from a construction work-related injury. During this month of particular awareness, it's so important that we in the Construction Industry take the opportunity to further our own education and spread awareness for how we can STAND UP for suicide prevention. #StandUpForSuicidePrevention
