TRUMP MOVES TO CUT DEI FUNDING AT UNIVERSITIES Trump is enlisting Christopher Rufo to spearhead a push against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in federally funded universities. Rufo proposes cutting federal aid to institutions that maintain DEI practices, citing violations of the Civil Rights Act. The initiative initially targets Ivy League schools but could reshape federal funding across all higher education institutions. "Over the past century, what made American higher education the best in the world is not its superiority in career training, but educating students for democratic citizenship, cultivating critical thinking and contributing to the personal growth of its students through self-creation. To revive American higher education, we need to reinvigorate these roots." Penn professor Zeke Emanuel speaks to the decline of a liberal arts education, the widespread effects it is having on our society, and the urgent need to reinstate these principles for democracy's sake. #SpeakersOfSubstance #HigherEd #HigherEducation #LiberalArts #Education #CivicEducation #CivicParticipation #KeynoteSpeakers https://hubs.la/Q02ygcM60

On of the five areas of the social determinants of health is access to quality education, from as young as preschool to postsecondary education. When people have access to quality education and have opportunity to access higher education, they are less apt to have chronic illnesses and medical conditions (e.g. diabetes, heart disease, MIs, strokes) because they have access to jobs with increased compensation and excellent benefits (health insurance, PTO). Unfortuately, if you are from a lower SES or even with a disability you are less likely to have these opportunities. My doctoral project was rooted in this topic specifically focusing on students with disabilities. Please check out the framework I used for it : https://lnkd.in/eV7WCq2Q Because Governor Healey and the state congress, all people have increased access to opportunities to access postsecondary education if they choose to do so. Today is a wonderful day!! #socialdeterminantsofhealth #equity #inclusion #freeandaffordablehighereduncation #disability #supportcommunitycolleges
Our students deserve every opportunity to succeed, including a chance to go to college affordably. Thanks to Governor Healey and the legislature, the FY25 budget delivers free and affordable higher education at community colleges and public 4 year universities. ??

Take action during National Arts & Humanities Month! After the election, the U.S. Congress will focus on passing Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations, including funding for arts education. You can use the following link to easily message your member of Congress and urge them to fund arts education in 2025 adequately: https://loom.ly/smRhXCw Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Education sent a letter of guidance to Chief State School Officers, encouraging schools to use federal education dollars for arts education to provide a well-rounded education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The letter explains that school districts can use Title I, Part A funds to strengthen arts education programs to help students in Title I schools with a high percentage of low-income families meet challenging academic standards. Furthermore, the guidance discusses how other federal formula funds can support arts education through various programs. Are you concerned about the politicization of history teaching in this country, especially when it comes to issues of race? If so, here's a small thing you can do — vote for the session I proposed for the next SXSW EDU conference on "Teaching Difficult Histories: Private Colleges & Public K-12." Please take a look before August 18 (you need to create a free account to vote): https://lnkd.in/eukVivgi. Here is the short description: "In many states, honest teaching about difficult topics in public schools is under assault. Many teachers feel constrained by local school boards, state officials, and national opinion-makers when it comes to addressing the complex histories of slavery, racial violence, and race relations. Many public universities are facing the same pressures. Fortunately, private colleges and universities are stepping up to offer resources and support for K-12 teachers (and even public universities). This session will discuss political headwinds and the practical work of public-private collaborations." We have a wonderful panel of experts from two CIC member institutions —Austin College (TX) and Flagler College (FL) — and Yale's Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition.

Just read a brilliant article by Manish Sabharwal titled *Making campus equal, excellent*, which highlights the evolving landscape of higher education in India. The article explains, in a clear and engaging way, the age-old conflict between equality (low fees) and excellence (high costs) and how innovative non-profit Indian universities are breaking this cycle. By utilizing endowments, cross-subsidized fees, and scholarships, these institutions are providing affordable, high-quality education that is set to elevate India’s standing in global education and technology. The article beautifully captures how institutions like Azim Premji University, ISB, and Ashoka University are creating sustainable education models that avoid burdening students while promoting academic excellence. It also addresses the vital role of human-centric teaching, even as AI and virtual reality reshape education. The clarity with which these complex issues are explained is truly commendable. Kudos to the authors for shedding light on such an important topic! The future of higher education in India looks promising with these innovative models. #HigherEducation #Innovation #NonProfitUniversities #EqualAndExcellent #IndiaEducation #EducationalExcellence #InclusiveGrowth #Endowments #CrossSubsidizedFees #Scholarships #LeadershipInEducation
The golden rule of modern higher education - those with the gold rule - has infuriated teachers, parents, and policymakers for centuries because making universities equal (low fees) conflicts with excellence (high costs). Our case for breaking this conflict through endowments, scholarships and differential fees
