Predictable scheduling respects the needs of frontline workers—and it’s good for business. Catalyst Inc.’s research around frontline employees can be so valuable to businesses struggling to retain workers. When we spoke to women in frontline roles to understand how they feel at work, they told us that one of the key barriers that keeps them from thriving is unpredictable scheduling. ? Women wear lots of hats, and that requires lots of scheduling. Strict and unpredictable work schedules tend not to align with school and daycare hours.?(As I touch on in my book?In Her Own Voice, the COVID lockdown aimed a spotlight on the stress and anxiety women felt as they struggled to integrate caregiving responsibilities with work, up to three hours more per day than men!) ? As long as women are disproportionately responsible for caregiving, they need companies to be less rigid and “last minute” in their scheduling policies. Employers that get workers their schedules in advance are finding that it’s?good for business.? ? Catalyst wants to ensure this trend catches on.?There’s a huge opportunity for employers to innovate, listen to frontline employees, and create respectful and rewarding workplaces. Removing sources of instability, unpredictability, and rigidity from scheduling systems is a really good place to start. ? The more we do to help frontline workers move more smoothly between work and home, the better we’ll get at pulling more women to the workplace and solving the retention problem. #FrontlineEmployeesInitiative #FrontlineWomen #FoodService #TheCatalystEffect
Love this! As the primary caregiver of my 33 year old daughter, I'm so familiar with the extra layer (and sometime expense) that comes with the terrain when we're harmonizing so many "critical" factors. Such an important conversation!
This is a major challenge in the ##railindustry, as well as many others. Solving these types of challenges are major wins for all frontline employees and their families!
