Congratulations, America, on another powerful exercise in democracy. Whether the results are painful for some or healing for others, this election reflects a profound dedication to civic duty and the enduring strength of the American democratic process. These results also raise an important question: why are women candidates struggling to gain traction? This moment should push us to examine the effectiveness of our narrative around women in leadership. Are we truly listening to the needs, aspirations, and voices of our younger generation, who clearly think differently? It’s time to recognize that the usual narrative on women’s leadership is no longer resonating with them, and that we must bridge our perspectives.

At Women Standing Together, we embrace the value of different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Maine is full of collaborative and supportive women leaders and entrepreneurs. Chief’s mission to support women leaders is great and all, but let’s be real—it hasn’t always intentionally included all women. For a while, the lack of diversity was glaring, and even though it seems to have improved a bit over the year or so, it feels like the intersection of race and gender is still misunderstood or overlooked. Supporting women means supporting Black women—honestly, publicly, and not just when it makes a cute social media post. So I have to ask: What did Chief do this election cycle to foster real conversations with its core group, predominantly white women, about anti-blackness, anti-racism, and backing a Black woman candidate? And what’s your plan to do so moving forward?Because the election numbers don’t lie—there was a major gap in support across the white woman demographic regardless of other factors. I recently read Deb Feder's Daily Journal article on how women attorneys can stand out and grow their practices, and it truly resonated with me. Her advice is to reflect on the key lessons we’ve learned throughout our careers and strategically share them—whether in client conversations, LinkedIn posts, or collaborative discussions. It’s a powerful way to build trust and demonstrate value. I particularly appreciated her emphasis on creating supportive networks for women leaders. By fostering strong teams and amplifying each other’s strengths, we can provide even better solutions for clients while uplifting the next generation of leaders in our field. Feder’s point that it’s not about shouting louder but being intentional and authentic in how we showcase expertise is a message worth sharing. Link to the full article is in the comments.
