One of my "dormant ties" reached out on LinkedIn today. We have a call set for the near future and I'm so looking forward to it. I recently asked another dormant tie for some help and we are now looking for ways to team up on client consulting projects. What fun! It can feel awkward trying to reconnect to someone you lost touch with, but it's a proven strategy and more often than not feels very genuine and meaningful. Great insights. The stuff we make up in our heads about dormant relationships can sometimes get in the way of reconnecting when most people genuinely appreciate the effort in our increasingly busy world.?
Jennifer you may be experiencing something that military people share - the ability to form close bonds and working relationships for a project, opportunity, or operation followed by gaining your separate ways. ?The neat part is that when the former teammates get back together it's almost like they never were apart - "oh has it been five years?" and they pick back up where they left off. ?It's one of the characteristics of military friendships (and working relationships) that I treasure. ?If you have become privy to this then that's a great thing!
I went into this saying in my head I would disagree, but overall I think this is a great concept.? Weak ties do present a sense of belonging to a greater community and provide connections to areas of life you otherwise would not have.? People are generally happy to help and this can lead to opportunities.??

That's a good point. I guess it's a matter of one's intent. I just like meeting different people in a pseudo-sociology context. It's like going to a wildlife preserve and observing them in their natural habitat. Can learn alot.

Every time I see and read new add-ons I have to say I wasn't a fan then and now I'm am starting to hate the words weak ties and dormat (sounds like doormat)even more now. Should I feel honored that my profession was chosen as the go to for a possible connection? To me it reinforces the idea that hairdressers are not held in the same regard as other professionals. We do more then just hair. Let me tell you what else comes with our license. First, a lot of us are college educated. We are therapists, designers, decorators, educators, doctors, wardrobe consultants chemists, politicians, mediators, organizers. We chair and host fundraisers. We are the voice of reason and sought after for our knowledge and opinions. In a way we should thank you for these new brilliant insights. After sharing this article with some of my colleagues we decided it was time to raise our prices across-the-board. Realizeing that we've been underpaid for too long for all we do.
