At Gardner-Webb University, the Tucker Student Center is more than a building, it’s a hub for learning, socializing, and creating memories ?????? The centerpiece of this project is Frank Stewart Hall, a performance space powered by Skyfold Classic 51? operable walls. "This investment is already paying off, with Stewart Hall being one of the most active areas in the 110,000-square-foot building." — Wayne E. Johnson, associate vice president of operations. How did Skyline Innovations upgrade their flex space? ??? The double-walled system operates with no friction when closing. When the wall deploys, the side seals extend automatically and make a reliable, consistent acoustical seal. The entire space can be reconfigured mechanically in less than three minutes with only two people and the lightweight design is significantly more efficient than traditional side-stacking systems. “We wanted students to feel connected, whether they are studying, eating, socializing, or just interacting as they move through the building. As higher education enrollment rates climb, there is an urgent need for students to have quality housing on college campuses. HKS education designers have created student housing environments on campuses small and large. But beyond just delivering housing units, our teams have conducted extensive research to understand what students really want and need for their housing. ? HKS has developed a research coalition to help align with university partners on how to put student experience at the center of the design process. Out of twelve student needs, three of the most foundational needs identified were privacy, socialization and comfort. ?? ? Can limitations be a good thing? University College Dublin's Building Life Module considered two buildings on the UCD campus, asking how they might be repurposed for new life and uses. Working within the confines of existing buildings challenged students to think more creatively than they might designing something from scratch. Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, What's The Most Beautiful Campus Of Them All? Architecural Digest is the latest magazine to rank colleges. The list is subjective, as is typical, but it is a reference point if the beauty of a campus is important. Be aware that if a college wants your kid to tell them about why you want to go to that college, the college does NOT want your kid to say "because the campus is pretty."
