Peter Hotez MD PhD and Carla Keirns are probably familiar with this. Because of what thankfully turned out to be a non-COVID cold, I got a PCR test. Because I don't drive and don't have a car, I had a hard time getting transportation to the clinic. In fact my first attempt to book an appointment to get a PCR test resulted in a no-show on my side because I couldn't get #transportation there. I was able to get a ride on my second attempt. Normally, I take #PublicTransportation to #clinics but I was uncomfortable taking #WRTA #buses for conscience reasons and I was afraid that #taxis here in #WorcesterMA including #RedCabs and #YellowCabs would have been unwilling to take me. People who don't drive and/or don't have #cars need to be able to get PCR tests when necessary--including #elderly who can't drive any more as well as people who are #blind or people who feel it's too hard to drive safely!

Happy #nationalnursesweek Looking through my article archives I found this gem that I wrote a few years ago for EliteNursing on #meninnursing #malenurses I had the opportunity to interview one of my longtime friends and fellow @UCLA Alum and classmates Abner Vilches A Nurse is a #nurse no matter what #gender you are. The word “Nurse” comes from the Latin word “nutrire” which means to suckle. Historically, the #nursing role has been predominately a female profession. This social stereotype has automatically excluded men from entering the profession and created a stigma. Can Men Be Nurturers? The stereotypical toxic masculinity roles claim that men are not empathic. They cannot nurture. They are not compassionate. Those roles are reserved for females. “Nursing is not about the starched white hats, immaculate uniforms or Nurse Ratchet! That’s what the media portrays the profession to be. It’s not only a role for females. It’s much more than that. It’s about forensics, flight nursing, emergency, ICU, anesthesia, and advanced practice nursing. Those are just a few roles where both men and women can flourish in the profession.” Abner Vilches works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in a bustling urgent care. He chose nursing as a profession over twenty years ago when he saw his friend become handicapped after he was run over by a car. “I saw how the female nurses were caring for my friend and I thought to myself, ‘I can do that!’ Nursing is a caring profession!
