Day 11 in our series at The Flannel Bear | The benefits of candles. Today we are focusing in on tradition and offering a welcome to others. Have you seen the candles in the windows of houses at Christmas time? Do you know what they represent? No? Come to find out, there are several meanings behind this that I was unaware of, and I want to share this with you. 1. A sign of welcoming to strangers or weary travelers. Just like when you see someone have a pineapple door knocker or pineapple flag, welcome. 2. It has also been known as a sign of sanctuary. If someone is tired or lost, that they are welcome to stop at that home or establishment for food and even shelter. 3. To celebrate Hanukkah, the lighting of the menorah. 4. A way to announce good news - or the birth of a child. 5. As a way to remember someone, who is no longer with us. The thought of creating a special tradition and signs of welcoming to all, is heartwarming. It allows for a fresh perspective to something simple, and yet sophisticated, that likely we have all experienced, encountered at times, and yet quite possibly have forgotten. Did you know about the meaning of the candles in the window? What were you taught? How old were you when you first saw it and even asked about it? This series is meant to encourage conversations amongst all of us. And the comments and questions that everyone is asking is and has been so much fun to read, respond to, and see conversations that are being started with others. The ideas that we are sharing, are bonus. Exceptional weather we've been having.... Cheers ?? to being nearly at the end of our work week people. How are you fairing out there LinkedIn? How many of you are done with your Christmas ?? shopping ??? How many of you don't celebrate at all or celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, or another holiday this season? We do celebrate Christmas ??, the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We celebrate by decorating ?? with a tree that is as much of a decoration as the pieces that are hung on it, Christmas lights outside & inside our home ??, poinsettia plants ??, music ??, movies, usually a Santa ?? visit with pictures (though we haven't seen him yet this year), a church service on Christmas Eve, good food, and a gift ?? exchange on Christmas morning. This year we aren't hosting anyone other than our immediate 6 person family and keeping open house style with their friends and significant other to stop in between their own busy schedules of visiting family.
