I think my favorite part of learning emotional intelligence is sharing the education process with other peers, whether in a personal or professional setting. Seeing that growth happen externally, as well as internally, is beyond rewarding - and you don’t have to be a psychologist to see that growth develop, either. An easy way to bring emotional intelligence into the workplace could be as simple as highlighting situational awareness (“I would probably feel the same way in their shoes right now”). The empathy and self-awareness developed from this awareness can help being a team closer and build cohesive thinking and problem solving. As long as humans are involved in the workplace, emotions will always be involved too.

Let’s talk about the words we use at work. Starting a new career can feel like you’re walking a tightrope. Now, imagine someone shaking that rope as you try to find your balance. Sounds tough, right? That’s what harsh words can do to someone early in their career. There’s a real difference between helpful criticism, just being tough, and outright insults. Understanding this can change the game: Constructive Criticism? It’s like a coach who points out how to improve your swing—not just telling you that you missed the ball. Being Tough? That's about challenging folks to level up while showing them the ropes and making them learn through their mistakes. Tough but fair. Blatant Insults? They cut deep, and let’s be honest, they don’t help anyone grow. They just tear down confidence. So, how do we do better? Here’s my take: Be Kind and Clear: Make sure your feedback helps, not hurts. Uplift, Don’t Undermine: Aim to inspire improvement, not fear of failure. Celebrate the Efforts: Notice the hard work, even if the results aren’t perfect. It matters. Words are powerful. Let’s use them to build each other up, not break each other down. Have you changed how you give feedback over the years? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #Leadership #CareerAdvice #PositiveWorkplace #Mentoring
