How can communities and police rebuild trust in areas plagued by insecurity? New research by Patrick Mutahi, PhD, CHRIPS Executive Director, @Kristine Hoglund and Emma Elfversson shows that community policing, often overlooked or dismissed, can play a crucial role. By studying everyday interactions in Karagita and Kaptembwo, two low-income urban settlements in Nakuru County, Kenya, the research found that positive relationships between communities and police can be fostered, even in challenging environments. The findings highlight the importance of everyday interactions and community policing structures in rebuilding trust and improving police-community relations.
