Beloved restaurant chain, CHI-CHI's has announced it will make a comeback through a new agreement with Hormel Foods. The deal grants Michael McDermott, son of the brands founder, use of the CHI-CHI'S name on physical restaurant locations which are expected to open in 2025. Founded by restaurateur Marno McDermott and former Green Bay Packers player Max McGee in 1975, the restaurant chain grew rapidly during the late 20th century, reaching more than 200 locations nationwide. London restaurant operator MJMK Restaurants, which is behind Casa do Frango, AngloThai, KOL, Lisboeta and Fonda, has told Propel that it is starting to look at international opportunities and isn’t planning on opening any new restaurants in London this year. The business, which was founded in 2018 by Jake Kasumov and Marco Mendes, said it would focus on its existing UK estate over the coming 12 months but had begun to explore opportunities in the US, Middle East and Far East. ?? There has been over 200 restaurants and cafes closed in Q1 2024, this is a 146% increase in comparison to Q1 2023. ?? But while insolvency levels have grown substantially, this is only slightly elevated from pre-pandemic levels of 2019. The majority of closed businesses in the sector do not go through an insolvency process.
