"New Look Tailors" set up their shop in my neighborhood many years ago. We also tried their tailoring by giving cloth to stitch my long skirt....though I must admit that since it was a test for their skill, I gave a rather ordinary piece of cloth, what if they spoil it! But the tailor surprised me! The fitting and finishing was of a very superior order. The finishing of any outfit is my criteria to give my approval, and here they succeeded. Now, I would give them various designs and fabrics for stitching and they would perfectly do their job. They were always over booked and the number of customers kept increasing. This went on for 5-6 years. One day, I gave them an expensive blouse piece for stitching as it was for a family wedding. The final output was not good, finishing....bad. Shocked and angry I asked them to make the alterations but nothing much could be done. I took it as a once a while mishap but this went on. My friends and their Moms too complained of similar happenings. I tried to find out the reasons and this is what I found out. ? They changed their staff as the old and trusted tailors were wanting an increase in their salary, now that New Look Tailors were a big name, and they didn't want to pay more. ? They took more work than they could handle, thus compromising on the overall finishing. ? They started using substandard quality of threads, buttons, lace, etc. to make more money indirectly. ? The criteria to hire new tailors was less salary and not quality of work so the finished product had to suffer. Meanwhile, the fired tailors started their own work, giving quality and people like me went with them and discontinued with New Look. It is the quality of work that matters. For that, if one has to retain the original team, one should do it because only good quality can get you more work.... nothing else can! P.S. New Look Tailors struggled for some years but shut down their shop some 3 years back. #quality #work #teamwork #team
