?? Happy May long weekend! It's been a great past few days meeting so many of you. It's made me even more determined to earn your trust and support for this upcoming election. This city needs more than just ideas—we need actionable solutions for smart growth from trusted leaders. That’s why I’ve summarized my values for Chestermere’s future into three core points: action, trust & smart growth. Action means taking reasonable, achievable steps towards the massive goals we want to see in Chestermere. Personally, I’m done waiting patiently for new schools, better recreation facilities and affordable housing. Trust means that when the City says something is true, it is. My word is my commitment, character and reputation, and I don’t take that lightly. Smart growth means giving our infrastructure a chance to catch up to our population. For decades, Chestermere has grappled with the pains of rapid growth because this is a wonderful place that people want to live—and I’m committed to this vision. If action, trust and smart growth sound like the Chestermere you want to see, I invite you to learn more and get in touch through my website https://janellesandboe.com #votejanellesandboe #yourvoicematters #chestermereelection2024

Rightly so we are fixated on Sustainability. Too often the main focus is on the environmental aspects of ESG. As Tamae illustrates in this example, the S or Social in ESG is vitally important and remedying the poor practices of the past is essential in ensuring we create thriving and connected cities and communities.

Congratulations to the Chester Economic Development Authority, one of our esteemed #ThrivingCommunities. Through a collaborative effort with Delaware County and Pennsylvania DOT, their Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grant application was selected for planning funds to undertake essential preliminary engineering and final design work. The focus of this project is to implement a road diet, traffic calming measures, and develop the East Coast Greenway along State Route 291. Currently, residents in Chester face numerous barriers that have isolated their community and created unsafe conditions when attempting to traverse the city. These barriers include multiple rail lines, I-95, and Pennsylvania State Route 291. Route 291, often referred to as Second Street or "a highway through a community", has posed challenges for Chester, a predominantly Black or African American city in Delaware County, southeastern Pennsylvania. Within a block of Route 291, nearly 40% of households in Chester do not have access to a vehicle, and 45% of these families are living below the poverty line. The proposed project aims to create opportunities for safe crossings over Route 291, facilitating access to recreational facilities and amenities along the Riverfront. These include the sports complex, the Riverwalk, Harrah's Casino, and Barry Bridge Park. By implementing these vital improvements, the project will significantly enhance the #qualityoflife for all residents, fostering a more equitable and inclusive community. Our Team ( The Ray Highway, Arcadis, InfraStrategies LLC, and Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D. ) was proud to support you on this initiative through the #USDOT Thriving Communities program. #bettertogether #transportation #mobility #equity #bridgingthegap #connectivity

Communities all across Wisconsin have a hard time creating enough quality housing options to serve the people who call that area home. Leaders in the City of #Ladysmith found a solution that served the community in another way for decades. WEEKEND TRIVIA! Dear M.G.L. Chapter 40A, We can’t live with you, we can’t live without you. Please change radically, but not too much. Sincerely and sarcastically, Citizens of Massachusetts We love to hate and hate to love our quirky Zoning Act here in the Commonwealth. With the ongoing implementation of the mandated multi-family housing requirements of the “MBTA Communities Act,” https://lnkd.in/eV62Hhnd we’re in the Golden Era of media attention on zoning, with daily stories about how our housing crisis is inextricably linked to land use regulation and the soul-searching NIMBY debates occurring throughout the region. Let’s all take a break and have a little bit of fun and mental stimulation! Here goes!: As cities and towns move to adopt compliant MBTA zoning changes, the procedural steps matter along the way to ensuring their legality. One of those steps requires that each municipality proposing to adopt zoning changes must send notice of the required public hearing “…by mail, postage prepaid to the department of housing and community development, the regional planning agency, if any, and to the planning board of each abutting city and town.” Even though the City of Boston is not subject to the Zoning Act (you read that correctly, all you out-of-staters!), it still is supposed to receive the public hearing notices from its neighbors. So, here’s the question: How many cities and towns must send public hearing notices of their proposed zoning changes to the City of Boston? #langan #mbta #zoning

For five years, CBI has been supporting Forest for All NYC, a growing coalition that aims to foster a healthy and resilient urban forest that justly and equitably delivers its many benefits to New York City’s diverse neighborhoods. The group just celebrated its 3rd annual City of Forest Day, with 85+ events across all 5 boroughs. There have been legislative successes, too: New York’s City Council has passed two pieces of legislation prompted by Forest for All NYC. The first calls for developing a plan for the city’s 7 million trees spanning both public and private property, and the second piece of legislation has set a clear goal for the city’s urban forest: 30% canopy coverage by 2035. Next up:?Helping the Coalition develop a funding and resource strategy to keep the Coalition strong in the years ahead.

It's programs and initiatives like this tourism and economic development become force multipliers in improving local economies and livability factors within communities.
Making communities better places to work & live through strategies that help DMOs & their key amenities develop, promote, & protect their destination's brand.
Thank you to Governor Josh Shapiro and Lt Governor Austin Davis for their commitment to Main Street Matters, Keystone Communities, and work done by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center. Affordable housing is a matter of supply, demand, and perspective. There's no single policy that will solve housing affordability in the Tri-Valley, but engagement is needed to address the situation. Check out this snippet featuring current Livermore City Council member, (and former Livermore Vice-Mayor), Brittni Kiick, who offers her perspective on affordable housing.?Then, let’s start a conversation about “Housing for All!” #housingstrategy?#itvhousing4all

Today I debate Cameron Murray in Crikey, arguing that our nation's planning systems do more harm than good. I argue what I believe, which is that "the defenders of these outdated regimes must stop pretending that our nation is served well by its myriad planning systems. It is not. These systems increase housing costs, split communities, and impose bad health outcomes on the less powerful. Because that’s what the planning system is really about — not an expression of good urban planning principles, but of political power." Read the full piece below. https://lnkd.in/gfUkK3NC

As we approach 2025, the City of Duvall sets a focused agenda to create an even stronger, more connected community. Our legislative priorities are aligned with values that matter most to our residents—safety, sustainability, infrastructure, and inclusivity. Infrastructure Investment: Our growing community needs modernized infrastructure. We're prioritizing updating our Public Works Yard, Police Department and City Hall. We also must prioritize securing funding for critical infrastructure needs like 3rd Avenue, emergency operations and community/small business gathering spaces. Expanding City Parks: We want to continue the expansion of the Big Rock Ball Field complex and seek opportunities to expand McCormick Park for additional recreation while balancing the impacts on the natural environment and shoreline. Transportation and Public Safety: We need to secure funding to address transportation and public safety needs such as safety cameras, lighted sidewalks, and transportation studies at Hwy 203/ Woodinville-Duvall Rd intersections and Cherry Valley Rd & Main Street. Address intersections throughout the City to improve accessibility and safety. Housing Affordability & Diversity: Access to affordable, diverse housing options is critical to a vibrant community. We'll advocate for housing affordability policies, ensuring Duvall remains a welcoming place for everyone. And much more! Our 2025 legislative priorities reflect our commitment to fostering a community where everyone can live, work, and play. Together, let's champion Duvall's future! #CityofDuvall #CommunityBuilding #LegislativePriorities #Infrastructure #Sustainability #PublicSafety #HousingAffordability #Education
