Keynote Speaker. Head of Future Of Work APAC/ME Capgemini ?? HR Manager of the Year 2024 Australian HR Awards ?? AU Gender Equity Awards Finalist 2023 ?? AU LGBTQ Ally of the Year 2022?? Ex-Early Careers + Tech Delivery

Do we have to wait until a child of ours identifies as LGBTQIA+ to learn and support the community and wish for a more inclusive society? ? Do we have to wait to be diagnosed as neurodiverse to start accepting others for their different abilities? ? Do we have to have a partner who is diagnosed with mental illness to start breaking the stigma around talking about it and showing there's no shame to seeking help? ? If we can all walk the earth seeing others as someone else's loved one - what wouldn't we do to make our world and workplaces better for them. ? To be an ally is to use our privilege, our social credits, our unearned advantages in society - however that looks like to each one of us - to look around and stand up, amplify the voices and address the needs of those who don't get what we get. ? There's no such thing as a passive ally. ? You either speak up, act, amplify and protect those who are systemically oppressed, excluded and disadvantaged - or you don't. ? And the ultimate tragedy, as Dr Martin Luther King said, “???? ?????? ?????? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????? ???????? ???? ?????? ???????? ????????????.” ? It was my honour to join the ACON hosted panel to mark #IDAHOBIT 2023, to discuss how allyship plays a role - my top take outs: ? 1. When discriminatory language and behaviour is taking place - stand up and use your voice to say "That's really not the way to speak any more" - be curious and ask people what makes them say what they say. ? 2. Stand up for the LGBTQ/discriminated person when they are not in the room to defend themselves ? 3. Don't rely on the underrepresented person/LGBTQ person to educate you - google is your friend - information is a few clicks away so do your own research - as the toll it takes to come out again and again and educate people is exhausting ? 4. Turn knowledge into action from wherever you stand - you don't need a title - look at your processes, teams, systems, policies, environments - how inclusive are you? ? 5. Unlearn everything you've been taught - stop for a moment - do you believe things about gender, relationships, people, races, identity because that's just what you've been told - just because you heard it and thought it doesn't mean it's true - ??????????????-??????????????-???????????? with your hearts to evaluate for yourself what is right - and keep learning to help others thrive and have the same if not more advantages than you! Thank you Kent Hildred for your excellent facilitation, Francisco Lopez for your event set up. Massive thanks to Scott Brunelle and Amelia Catt for the insights and laughs. And I thank where I work - Capgemini for educating me through the Pride in Diversity training, setting up an environment where anyone can be bold, take action, and be empowered to make changes for the better. Thanks Nicki Elkin Steph Sands Wayne Marshall Stacey Waters for the education.

Thank you for your warmth, your candour, and your vulnerability to share with us your journey as an ally at the event JANANI D'SILVA. It was lovely to have you on the panel and share practical and easy tips for those looking to increase their active allyship to our community. You’re a wonderful example of being willing to unlearn, and self-educate. Great work ?? ????? ?????

Guilty as charged. I started understanding and appreciating neurodiversity when it hit home. I started understanding and appreciating sexual identities when I made some great friends who identified different to me. But now that I have done this over and over, it has helped me catch myself (or others) when I think bias is blurring the thought process about people.
