Loss of housing or housing instability is a major stressor for families. In these circumstances, young children may experience a variety of challenges related to health, nutrition, learning, and development. Director Khari M. Garvin’s Home at Head Start video series highlights the many ways our programs are equipped to support young children and families experiencing housing loss or instability. In this short video, Director Garvin shares how family service professionals can initiate caring conversations about McKinney-Vento eligibility. He also provides practical examples of how small language changes can make a big difference. The tools featured in this resource are helpful for all staff to support a welcoming environment. As the Jefferson County Head Start Policy Council Chairperson, I am committed to adopting these inclusive terms. I recognize that my language can unintentionally harm others, and I choose to make a difference by listening to those affected and changing my words accordingly. Inclusion isn’t hard; making someone feel like they belong is worth it! #HeadStart #HomeAtHeadStart #HealthEquity #HousingStability #InclusiveLanguage #CommunitySupport #EarlyChildhoodEducation #McKinneyVento #ChildDevelopment #FamilySupport #InclusionMatters https://acf.mobi/3QNG43t

Did you know that over 407,000 youth are currently in the foster care system across the United States? Here in Georgia, the need for support is especially critical. These young individuals face unique challenges that require our immediate attention and action. ?? Key Facts and Statistics: Increased Risk: Youth in foster care are at a higher risk for adverse life outcomes, including educational challenges and mental health issues. They are seven times more likely to suffer from depression and five times more likely to experience anxiety compared to their non-foster peers. · Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): Over 50% of foster youth have dealt with four or more ACEs, which can lead to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse later in life. · Educational Challenges: Foster youth are more likely to struggle with absenteeism and have special education needs, making it harder for them to achieve academic success. · Support Systems: Programs that focus on leadership, life skills, and relationship building are crucial. However, these programs need your support to continue making a difference. ? ?? How You Can Help: Volunteer: Your time and skills can make a significant impact on a child's life. Consider becoming a mentor or volunteering at local programs. Donate: Financial contributions are essential to fund the necessary programs and services that support foster youth. Advocate: Use your voice to raise awareness about the needs of foster youth and advocate for policies that provide better support and resources. By getting involved, you can help foster youth in Georgia overcome these challenges and achieve their full potential. Let's create a brighter future for these young individuals together! ??Join us in making a difference: www.camphorizon.net #FosterCare #Georgia #YouthSupport #Volunteer #Donate #Advocate #MakeADifference

Through our Economic Mobility & Security portfolio, AHF has provided support along with many other local funders to Promises2Kids to launch their Foster Futures program, a wrap-around approach with guaranteed income to stop the cycle of homelessness for ~1/3 of youth aging out of foster care. There are promising pathways to public support, and this local pilot will build upon the statewide effort with additional data to demonstrate outcomes. We are proud to be an early investor in this initiative. #FosterFutures #youth #community #HealthEquity

As we recognize Youth Homelessness, Outreach, Prevention, and Education (HOPE) Month, it’s essential to address the link between foster care and youth homelessness. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), approximately 1,500 youth age out of Texas foster care each year. Reports indicate that around 20% become homeless within the first year of leaving care and nearly 50% experience homelessness within 18 months. These numbers underscore the urgent need for support and resources for youth, especially those transitioning from foster care. Every young person deserves a safe, stable environment to thrive. Join RMYA this #YouthHOPEMonth to raise awareness and advocate for lasting change so that no child is left without hope. ?? #SupportOurYouth #HopeForChange #HopeforHomelessYouth

#Every child deserves the safety, security, and unconditional love that only a permanent family can provide. Yet, every year in the United States, about 20,000 young people #age #out of foster care without achieving this essential permanence. These youth, left to navigate life on their own, face significant challenges, including #higher #risks of homelessness, joblessness, early parenthood, and substance use. This is a #reality we cannot ignore. When we #support efforts to provide lasting, loving homes for older youth in foster care, we change the trajectory of their lives, offering them the stability they need to #thrive. Let’s #work #together to ensure no child leaves foster care without the security of a family. Whether through adoption, mentorship, or community support, each of us can play a role in making sure these young people have the foundation they #deserve. #Help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 in the month of August: https://lnkd.in/eGxQYYrm #Join #us in this critical mission to provide forever families for all children. Because every child deserves a family—no exceptions. #FosterCare #Adoption #YouthSupport #ForeverFamily #CommunityAction

To understand ēMA, we must first recognize the crisis at hand. We’re here to help mothers in crisis achieve lasting stability for their families. The reality is, many children enter the foster care system due to preventable issues like financial instability, rather than abuse or abandonment. While such cases exist, the statistics are clear: there are countless mothers in our communities who lack the resources to support themselves and their children. This is where ēMA comes in. Our mission is to equip, empower, and educate mothers to set them up for lasting success. Discover more about the crisis and our approach in this insightful article by our CEO and Founder, Charlee Tchividjian. https://lnkd.in/eexVeY9T #ēMA #EMA #EveryMothersAdvocate #MotherAdvocacy #fostercareprevention #reunifyfamilies #sustainablemission #breakingthecycle #reframingfostercare #preservefamilies
