Today marks a milestone in Singapore-Malaysia economic ties, with our respective Prime Ministers witnessing the signing of the agreement on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ)! ?????????? Our partnership will see improvements to cross-border connectivity and the ease of doing business for companies that want to tap on the strengths of both Singapore and Malaysia to serve Asian and global markets. Under the agreement, there will be freer movement of goods and people, creating a robust business ecosystem for companies to twin their operations and leverage the unique strengths of both regions. Highlights of the Agreement include: ?? A one-stop shop to streamline and expedite the set-up process in the JS-SEZ, known as the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre- Johor ?? Increasing clearance capacity and implementing automated immigration lanes and paperless cargo clearance for goods, to be rolled out in phases ?? Strengthening local transport links in Singapore and Malaysia ???? Talent development through training partnerships between institutes of higher learning in Singapore and Malaysia The JS-SEZ (twice the size of Shenzhen) will catalyse investments in key sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, energy, the digital economy, and the green economy. Within the first five years, Singapore and Malaysia aim to facilitate 50 projects and create 20,000 skilled jobs through the SEZ. The recent establishment of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is set to significantly enhance regional connectivity and economic growth within ASEAN. Launched on January 7, 2025, this initiative aims to strengthen economic ties between Malaysia and Singapore, leveraging their individual strength and close proximity to create a dynamic hub for trade and investment. ?????? ?????????? ?????? ????????????????: ?????????????????? ????????????????: The JS-SEZ, situated at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia near Singapore, provides seamless access to Singapore's infrastructure while offering cost advantages in Johor. ???????????????? ????????????: The zone targets the creation of 20,000 skilled jobs and the initiation of 50 projects in its initial five years, with a long-term goal of 100 projects and 100,000 jobs over the next decade. ???????????? ??????????: Prioritizing high-value industries like AI, aerospace, renewable energy, and logistics, the JS-SEZ aligns with Malaysia's vision for a forward-looking economy. ??????????: The 3,500 sq km SEZ will be four times larger than Singapore and nearly twice the size of Shenzhen, which Malaysia aims to emulate. ???????????????? ????????????????????????: Improved flow of goods & people and streamlined cross-border movement will enhance operational efficiency for businesses, vital for optimizing supply chains across the region. Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) will be revolutionary to the South-East Asia economy. The JS-SEZ will include Johor's development zones of Iskandar Malaysia and Pengerang in the state's south and eastern regions, covering a land area of around 3,500 sq km (1,350 square miles) – nearly twice the size of Shenzhen. With the landmark agreement signed on 7 Jan 2025, JS-SEZ will become a huge opportunity for businesses and people in both Singapore and Malaysia side. Johor state is poised to be biggest winner, with significant incoming investments and rise in local income and economic growth expected. With ease of people, good and services cross border movement, it will alleviate labour, housing, sustainable energy and land shortage issues in Singapore. Truly a win for Malaysia and Singapore. Perhaps this will accelerate the growth of advanced manufacturing, data centers, and regional logistics in both countries. Still a lot of details to be resolved. Not quite Schengen and there are still a lot of differences in terms of tax, legal, labour and business practices. At the same time, there are some many similarities between the two countries - JS-SEZ is a win win plan. Malaysia and Singapore to Establish Massive Johor-Singapore SEZ, Rivaling Shenzhen in Scale https://lnkd.in/gTj_bv2x Malaysia and Singapore are set to sign a landmark agreement to establish the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), a vast free-trade area nearly twice the size of Shenzhen. Spanning Johor's Iskandar Malaysia and Pengerang regions, the JS-SEZ aims to boost economic growth, ease transit of goods and people, and attract investments with tax incentives and improved infrastructure.

At the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat yesterday, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone agreement was officially signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, and Malaysia Minister of Economy, Rafizi Ramli, and witnessed by Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, and Malaysia Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Singapore and Malaysia continue to strengthen our economic ties to drive growth across our industries ???? In Kuala Lumpur last week, EDB’s discussions with our friends and partners spanned electric vehicles (EVs) ??, innovation ??, technology ??, and natural resources ??, all reflecting the dynamic opportunities in our region. With Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) CEO Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim, we continued conversations on collaborations between the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and MIDA to jointly promote the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The JS-SEZ aims to improve the ease of doing business and the cross-border flows of goods, people, and services.
