Happy #givingtuesday! In my pre-Spokn life, I worked at a nonprofit on the receiving end of corporate donations. So there's a special place in my heart for the Spokn customers using our tool to share stories about the causes their employees support.
As I chat with employee engagement or CSR managers, I'd say that most describe a struggle to get their employees to participate in their corporate giving programs, whether it's matching donations, volunteer events, or skills-based volunteering.
For many, this is despite offering company $$ or paid time off. So, it's especially confounding-slash-frustrating.
But when I ask how they publicize the giving opportunities, it often sounds a bit impersonal, almost transactional: "We're giving A to create B impact."
I wonder how much more effective the message could be if it included a deeper, more personal 'why' from one or more leaders or peers.
Think about hearing the answer to one of these:
- Our of all the causes you could support, this is the one you chose. Why does it matter to you?
- You're a busy person. What makes this activity worth your time?
- Who are you honoring with this gift of your time, donation or skills?
If you're looking for an example of this done really well, check out how the Tradeweb team captured the personal stories of why employees walk to support breast cancer research.
This Sunday, we spent a meaningful morning in Central Park for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk ?????. It was inspiring to join survivors and advocates on a beautiful Fall day in honor of
#BreastCancerAwarenessMonth.?Partnering with American Cancer Society for this annual event has become a favorite Tradeweb tradition, thanks to our Global Women’s Network. Thank you to everyone who walked with us or contributed to the cause.
