The next class is filling up nicely! I have sat in on a few interviews and I am always inspired by the individual life journeys and the bright destinations yet to come. The training includes live asymmetric cyber range exercises and instructors who work in the cybersecurity field today in the DoD, Intelligence, and Commercial sectors. It’s not a school but a cybersecurity apprenticeship. Aspects of the program are modeled after training used for non-FVEY cybersecurity partners prioritized by the U.S. for increased cyber resilience. The intermittent subject matter expert presentations include topics such as: 1. Data Privacy 2. Cryptology 3. Zero Trust 4. Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity 5. Critical infrastructure cybersecurity 6. Cybersecurity frameworks - CMMC, RMF, etc. 7. Artificial Intelligence A few stats: About one in five veterans surveyed are unemployed and currently seeking employment. The veteran Unemployment Rate was 2.8% in November. In November 2024, the veteran unemployment rate was 2.8%, down from 3.0% the previous month and unchanged from 2.8% the prior year. The unemployment rate for male veterans (2.7 percent) was lower than for female veterans (3.2 percent) in 2023. Both measures were little changed over the year. Among the 241,000 unemployed veterans in 2023, 60 percent were aged 25 to 54, 34 percent were aged 55 and over, and 6 percent were ages 18 to 24. (Source- Department of Labor) China is expected to invest $12.05 billion in cybersecurity. Their classified budget for cybersecurity is not public. China is reported to have a shortage in its cybersecurity workforce of around 1.5 million. The National Cybersecurity Center which was known as the National Cybersecurity Talent and Innovation Base is where some of China’s efforts to educate and staff the next generation of cyber talent are centered. The center is said to have seven centers for research, talent cultivation, and entrepreneurship; two government-focused laboratories; and a National Cybersecurity School.
