??Yesterday's International Capital Markets Conference, convened by the Financial Conduct Authority was a great success. I was delighted to represent the FIA European Principal Traders Association in what was imho one of the best capital markets policy conferences in many years. -- A well-considered programme, great speaker line-up, thoughtful moderation, and finely curated attendance by senior industry and regulatory stakeholders. ?? Unsurprisingly, the all-important theme was how to boost capital market #competitiveness whilst navigating ever-increasing volatility and geopolitical risk. ?It was great to see acknowledgment, in panels throughout the day, of the important role that Principal Trading Firms play in delivering efficient and competitive capital markets globally. Not least in the opening speech by FCA CEO Nikhil Rathi, who spoke about the importance of nurturing #liquidity and the need for more tailored prudential rules for Principal Trading Firms in order to spark more growth and competitiveness. ?? https://lnkd.in/ezytEzcW ?? Prudential regimes for investment firms are back in the spotlight. On 3 June 2024 the EBA and ESMA published a discussion paper kick-starting a review of the EU's regime, while in the UK the FCA is reviewing the prudential frameworks that fall under its remit as well.
