Passengers on Croatia Airlines’ Airbus A220-300 have observed that seat 31E is designated as unoccupiable, with a notice stitched into the seat cushion. This measure stems from safety regulations requiring that all passengers be evacuated within 90 seconds using only half of the aircraft’s exits. The A220-300 is certified for a maximum of 149 passengers; occupying the 150th seat would necessitate the installation of additional over-wing exits to meet these safety standards. To comply with these regulations without incurring the costs associated with modifying the aircraft’s structure, Croatia Airlines has opted to keep seat 31E unbookable. This approach ensures adherence to safety protocols while maintaining operational efficiency. #CEOinterview - Austrian Airlines is looking at Lufthansa Group's incoming Boeing 737-8s as an option to replace its aging Airbus A320s and also considering more wet leases. -"Especially as Austrian has a high demand for narrowbody replacement, we could be one of those 737 MAX cases. Also, Eurowings could be an example," Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann told me in Dubai. -It is not yet clear whether Austrian will be able to add more then eleven 787s. "With a margin far below our 2024 target of 5.5%, it will not be realistic anymore to have a thirteenth 787-9. Normally an 8% margin would be ideal for sustainable future investments," Mann explained. A decision regarding their 12th?Boeing 787-9 will be made this fall.
