Indeed, sustainable palm oil is difficult for oil palm smallholders, requires time, and high investment. SPOPP has proved that, with the right knowledge and working approach, it is possible and achievable. Happy to see that it impacts start to materialize, not only monetary benefits, but also competency values added to people we worked with. From a business point of view, it might be question whether it is worthwhile. But from my point of view, yes, it is if we could advancing smallholders’ capacity with low carbon and connecting them to green financing and carbon credit opportunity. #SPOPP

We are grateful to have pulled off this visit and stakeholder meetings in Kluang, Malaysia as we, the organizing committee, left the Philippines for the meeting when typhoon Kristine was still wreaking havoc. It was a productive meeting overall, as participants discussed research gaps, best ways to share knowledge and research findings, and policy interventions on rice straw management. Participants who came from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Pakistan, and the Philippines also visited the JIRCAS Kluang Pilot Plant to explore the potential of rice straw as a raw material for bio pellet production. As we continuously find ways to increase rice productivity, we must also address its unintended consequence of yielding more biomass including rice straw which contributes to GHG emissions. Participation of multiple stakeholders including the industry players, academe and R4D practitioners is critical to come up with systemic, multidimensional, practical and sustainable solutions. #ASEANCG #carboncredits #maffjapan #IRRI #publicprivatepartnership

Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has reached a significant milestone by securing a groundbreaking €40 million export agreement with German firms FIMA Industries GmbH and FAUN Umwelttechnik GmbH. This deal, supported by the German government’s export credit agency, Euler Hermes, and Oddo BHF Bank, marks a major step forward in transforming Lagos’ waste management infrastructure. The partnership brings together Zoomlion’s expertise in waste collection and management with FIMA’s and FAUN’s cutting-edge technology. This combination is set to drive sustainable development across Nigeria, making Lagos a cleaner and greener city. By focusing on the export of waste management services and equipment, the collaboration promises to bolster Lagos’ capacity to address its growing environmental challenges. The agreement, signed on October 7, 2024, in Lagos, saw senior officials from both Zoomlion and the German firms come together to formalise the deal. Malaysia's Marudi Forest Conservation and Restoration Project is expected to receive its #CarbonLicense from the Sarawak state government in the "very near term," allowing for carbon credit issuance and trading, Francois Blignaut, project lead at SaraCarbon, told S&P Global Commodity Insights in a recent interview. The Marudi project is significant because it is resource-rich Sarawak state's first nature-based carbon project and is expected to be one of Malaysia's largest nature-based projects by carbon credit issuance volume, amid the country's efforts to boost its pipeline of projects in the voluntary carbon market.
