Interesting podcast. Here are a few takeaways: ??EVs are inevitable ??US car manufacturers are in a very awkward transition phase and are caught flat footed with few EV offerings. Short term drawbacks are not indicative of long-term EV goals ??US incentivizes medium-heavy duty cars and trucks, manufacturers make more money in them, and therefore have very little to offer in inexpensive light weight models which would benefit economically disadvantaged. ????Other countries have done a much better job at this, and China is knocking on our door. It’s just a matter of time before a better, cheaper model arrives. ??? A planned transition with charging standards, gas station conversion and help for economically disadvantaged would be a more just, smooth, and even. Incumbents are cornered, fighting for survival, and against any kind of planning that phases them out. ?? Tensions and breakdowns of US systems (media, disinformation, political extremism, oligarch controls) are sending us into turmoil. Don’t underestimate the lengths the powerful (right) will go to to claw back control. The infighting in the US is damaging in so many ways and it isn’t going away anytime soon. They're delighted about the monitorability, cost profile, low maintenance and the overall TCO of going electric.?- Bill Loewenthal We are seeing a large push to electrification in fleet. And it does require very thoughtful planning on the fleet operator to make this transition. They fueled their vehicles for 100 years a particular way. - Bill Loewenthal ---- Rivian-Amazon EV Vans all over the neighborhood. We even have a BYD Electric garbage truck in our local fleet. Oakland Public Schools have gone 100% electric, with 74 shiny new electric busses. Even our local Caltrain commuter train has covered from diesel to electric. Changing routines fossilized for a 100 years, is not easy. But it's possible, and easier than ever given the technology insights included in today's modern solutions.
