?? Message on a bottle??? ? Imagine if when you buy water in 2030, the bottle says ‘made from 10% low carbon plastic’.? ? ?? by 2031 it’s 20%...? ? ?? by 2032 40%…? ? The chemical value chain involved in making that bottle is a complex one. So the science behind that label needs to be robust, reliable and trustworthy.??? ? Our latest White Paper suggests a solution to incentivise and accelerate the decarbonisation of the chemical industry. By recognising the proportion of decarbonised chemical ingredients as they progress through the value chain, we propose a model to systemically connect the end consumer with the emissions reductions of chemical production.? It’s a straightforward and proven principle. Giving consumers the choice of low-carbon products drives ethical competitive advantage, enhances companies' sustainability credentials and motivates investment and innovation throughout the value chain. Stepan's Lourdes Alonso, Research Chemist - Consumer Products, was recently featured in the Chemical and Engineering News Article, "The Chemistry of Cold-Water Washing." The article takes a closer look at a popular topic evolving within the home and laundry care industries: low temperature washing. Cold-water washing has many benefits from a consumer and sustainability perspective including helping to lower household laundry’s greenhouse gas footprint while lowering cost. Thanks Samantha Winterburn for sharing Inolex's responsible supply chain story at this year's AIChE - American Institute of Chemical Engineers ECCP Conference in Philadelphia!! Inolex sits at a unique position in our value chain. The upstream development of our supply chain as it relates to sustainable feedstock selection, ingredient manufacture, and ingredient transportation is a vital part of how we maintain a sustainable product life cycle. We make sustainable change possible upstream by holding our supply partners to high ESG standards, and downstream by passing the value of responsible products and services to brands around the world. https://lnkd.in/gaQnzUu4

?? Policy White Paper: Carbon and Cash - Financing a Circular Carbon Economy. ?? The challenge of climate change means that we need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions significantly if we are to address the warming of the planet. 95% of oil and gas production is used to make fuels and energy. The remaining 5% is used to make millions of everyday products we know today. This White Paper outlines two approaches which should be urgently progressed: ?? The first is new technology to make a wide range of these everyday materials from CO2, instead of using fossil fuel feedstock. This requires fundamentally different chemistry from the chemistry existing today to be developed and scaled, and significant research funding is required to do this. ?? The second is to create a valuable market in renewable carbon. Whilst not all carbon can be recycled today several volume products could be targeted, for example certain types of plastics, as well as those made from renewable carbon such as CO2 emissions. My first American Chemistry Council meeting was a fantastic experience. My key takeaways: -digital marketing solutions are on everyone’s minds (yes!!) -as a chemical and plastics industry we are making great sustainability strides -manufacturers want to re-shore manufacturing even in an uncertain regulatory environment And the biggest takeaway for me is a question to aspire to solve: -how do we connect our products to mainstream audiences so they see the “chemistry” in their kayaks, synthetics jackets, and electric cars? More to come! -Austin
