Since “workers are often best positioned to identify potential risks, practical limitations, and unintended consequences of a technology in real workplace settings,” Amanda Ballantyne, Jodi Forlizzi, and Crystal W. argue, “workers’ voices are a crucial resource for making innovative technologies trusted and effective, so their full benefits can be realized for society.”

A few months ago, I sat down with journalists from Charter, a media company focused on the future of work, to talk about the most important considerations for employers hoping to build more democratic, equitable workplaces. Much of our conversation focused on how employers and trade unions can build more collaborative relationships based on transparency and trust, rather than adversarial approaches that lead to breakdowns in the relationship. ? Now, Charter and the Aspen Business Roundtable on Organized Labor have published "The Shared Power Advantage: How to build a thriving company where workers have a seat at the table,". It's their comprehensive guide for business leaders who want to find ways to strengthen their companies?through worker empowerment. It explores how to implement strategies like shared governance through board representation, employee ownership, and forming and maintaining collaborative relationships with trade unions. I shared an example of how to develop behaviours for constructive employment relations and how to use these to audit the relationship between unions and organisational leaders, which they have included in the playbook. It has a US viewpoint and context and looks a great read for anyone interested in employee voice, regardless of geography. https://lnkd.in/gyEtdTmY ?

In today’s corporate landscape, “compensation transparency” and “communication policy” often mask hidden realities. Vague communication policies, concealed pay disparities, and misleading performance metrics perpetuate a culture of opacity. Genuine dialogue and equitable practices are sidelined, leading to demoralized employees and higher turnover rates. It’s time for companies to prioritize true transparency and accountability, fostering trust and fairness in compensation practices.
