Afternoon coffee gatherings are common and socializing over coffee is a cherished tradition. Special Occasions and Hospitality: Offering a cup of coffee is a symbol of hospitality in Hispanic households. Whether you are visiting a family member or attending a community event, it’s customary to share coffee with guests as a gesture of warmth and friendship. Espresso Culture in Hispanic Countries: Espresso, particularly in Cuba and Puerto Rico, holds a special place in daily life. Cuban "cafecito" is a strong, sweet espresso shot, often shared during short breaks throughout the day. Hispanic coffee traditions have influenced global coffee culture, with specialty coffee shops around the world offering Latin American-inspired drinks like cortaditos, café con leche, and Mexican-style coffee drinks. International recognition of Latin American coffee regions, such as Colombian Coffee or Guatemalan Antigua, highlights the high-quality coffee produced in these countries. Fusion comida is about to become more popular and prevalent in your neighborhood, and that’s a good thing. Did you know the number of people of Latino and Asian American or Pacific Islander heritage has more than doubled in the last 20 years? Between 2010 and 2022 the population rose from 350,000 to 886,000. So, while many of us may have thought delicious fusion cuisine was just the latest trend, there is history behind the cultural shift, stemming back to the early 1900’s when Latino and Asian or Pacific Islander citizens began interacting while meeting at work, and settled on both sides of the US-Mexican border. The multicultural conversation over how to reach this demographic just became a bit more interesting for marketing teams, and a reminder, the “one size fits all” approach is not likely to connect to the heart and soul of these AAPI Latinos. Your colleague in the office who you assumed was a Latina, could actually be Mexican Sri Lankan or a Korean Latina. Marketers take note, these young adults have distinctly different communities, understandings and identities, all they ask is you take the time to include them in the conversation and get to know their needs. I believe that the segregation of foods and traditional ingredients of racialized communities in a grocery store is one of the many ways in which structural and systemic racism manifests itself. I also believe the same occurs when people use the term “ethnic” to refer solely to what is foreign or “exotic”, or, as in this case, what immigrants eat. Please join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! We invite you to embrace this at your organization and find different ways to celebrate with your staff. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Cater a celebration lunch for your staff with a few different dishes from local Asian-owned and Pacific Islander-owned restaurants. Have a presentation or a topic to foster learning and discussion during the lunch. 2. Send out weekly emails highlighting one or two contributions or important cultural and historical impacts of Asia Americans and Pacific Islanders. Include a list of recommended books by Asian American and Pacific Island authors that coincide with the email highlight. 3. Send out a list of local Asian American and Pacific Islander cultural events and encourage your staff to attend. Then ask them to share something they learned. 4. Highlight your Asian American and Pacific Island staff members through short biographies that include some of their specific contributions to the organization and things they wish to share about their family, history, and culture. These are just a few of the many ways you can celebrate at your organization to help inspire learning and discussion, and to promote inclusion within your team.

This is a time when we get to learn about and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and histories of Native American peoples all across the United States. ?????? Why is this month so important? ?? Well, Native American cultures have been around for thousands of years and have taught us so much. From amazing stories and arts to influential leaders and groundbreaking inventions, Native American people have contributed greatly to our country. Did you know Native Americans helped introduce foods like corn, potatoes, and tomatoes? ?????? Imagine not having French fries or pizza! Crazy, right? Plus, Native American languages and stories are filled with wisdom and teachings that can inspire us every day. What can we do to join the celebration? ?? Here are a few fun ideas: 1. **Learn and Share** ??: Take some time to read about a Native American hero or watch a documentary. You can share what you learn with your family or friends and even post about it here on Facebook! Let's spread the knowledge! 2. **Explore Art and Music** ????: Check out Native American music or try your hand at some traditional crafts. Look up some vibrant artwork that tells stories through color and design. You might even get inspired to create something yourself! 3. **Support Native American Communities** ??: Look for local events or markets where you can show your support. Buying crafts or food items directly from Native American artists and cooks ensures that your money is going to a great place. 4. **Respect and Understand** ??: Take the opportunity to understand more about Native American laws and rights. As we begin to catch up from the exhilaration, energy and well-earned exhaustion that makes #Cannes, I want to share some of my thoughts that I hope will live beyond the week. 1. Latino unity and pride became Latino community and productivity at Cannes.? As more and more #Latinos reclaim our #Latinidad, we are inspired and uplifted by each other.? When we actively come together as a community we create the kind of critical mass we need, build our own networks, and drive progress together.? It is reinforcing to engage as a group. Our shared voice ?empowers and emboldens our individual voices. 2. Partnerships are best when they are allyships.? Without question, we took greater flight at Cannes this year because we had partners who not only showed up but sponsored our events, participated in them, opened up their audiences to ours.? I want to call out Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity's Chair, Philip Thomas, as well as Republica Havas, Procter & Gamble, National Football League (NFL), LERMA/. @MEL, REMEZCLA Media Group, Malka and Nielsen.? The sponsorships made our work possible.? Their belief in us helped us? soar. 3. The facts fuel the future.? We came to Cannes with a solid business case for the Latino market —data about our $3.4 trillion purchasing power and our $3.2 billion GDP. We drew the arc for the future, that our 20% population, which is the youngest and fastest-growing will grow to 30% of the population in the future.? Data makes storytelling powerful and persuasive. 4. Diversity isn’t an add-on.? #Marketers who not only understand their consumers but reflect their values are rewarded with sales, profits and long-term brand loyalty. So, for all the noise and backlash about DEI, take a look — the best of the best companies understand that inclusivity is not a box to tick, it’s a smart business strategy. Marketing is about the future and Latinos are the future. 4. We must keep driving Latino visibility on global platforms.? It is important for us to be in all the rooms where it happens — not just Cannes but also Davos and Advertising Week and any other platform where we can and must be part of the discussion. We also have to show up for each other. It is important for us to learn and listen from each other, build an agenda together and speak from the same script. Cannes was successful by so many measures.? The relationships between Latinos and brands, agencies, media and technology are being built and fortified all the time.? Our shared interests create a win for everyone and together we can write a future that is productive, prosperous and purposeful for all.

Native American fry bread, African-American soul food, and Asian-American cuisines like pho or sushi are more than meals—they’re historical narratives served on plates. These foods are symbols of ingenuity and adaptation, preserving the essence of home across generations. The Role of Community Traditions thrive because communities sustain them. Cultural festivals, storytelling events, and intergenerational teaching ensure these practices remain relevant. Modern technology, including social media, plays a pivotal role in amplifying these traditions globally, making them accessible to younger generations and broader audiences. Preserving the Legacy In an ever-globalizing world, preserving tradition is essential. It’s a way of saying, We were here. We mattered. We continue to matter. Through dance, food, and culture, Native American, African American, and Asian American traditions celebrate survival and progress, proving they are timeless. Let us honor these vibrant traditions and recognize the beauty they add to the fabric of society.
