This morning, supporters and friends of the Irish American Partnership gathered at the Boston Harbor Hotel to welcome United States Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin home to Massachusetts at the conclusion of her distinguished diplomatic mission. Joined by Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll and former Congressman Joe P. Kennedy III, we celebrated Ambassador Cronin’s exemplary leadership, her unwavering commitment to public service, and her remarkable efforts to strengthen the transatlantic relationship between the U.S. and Ireland. In a wide-ranging discussion with Professor Mary C. Murphy of the Irish Institute at Boston College, our 2025 Nollaig na mBan honoree spoke warmly about the people of Ireland, reflected on her extraordinary career in public service, and congratulated the Partnership on its impactful work at the grassroots level, supporting education across the island of Ireland. Consul General of Ireland, Sighle FitzGerald warmly welcomed an audience of over 300 guests and highlighted the profound impact Ambassador Cronin has made during her travels across the length and breadth of Ireland. We were delighted to see her here "on the last road in Ireland" along the Skellig Coast to celebrate the joint Irish - Canadian UNESCO application process for the Valentia/Hearts Content Transatlantic Cable project and supporting independent Irish business. As always, Stu, words to live by - especially if one is in a job search in today's fraught marketplace If the employer’s intent is to generate a flood of applicants by posting criteria that fits everyone in order to show they're scouring the market – you can’t stop that. ?But you certainly can stop yourself from jumping in when you know you shouldn’t. Read between the lines; use your own best judgment (based on your own best experiences) and focus on opportunities that exhibit clarity of content and are written to encourage/discourage respondents to be self-selective. If it’s not the right job for you, it’s not the right job for you. And remember – this employer may have other opportunities coming up in the near future that ARE appropriate …?and you definitely don’t want to be the candidate whom they remember responding to an opening that clearly was not in keeping with your experience and skills. Talk about self-induced road kill …. Understand who you are and what you want – and hold to that vision … and ask those who represent or assist you to do the same.
