What are the next generation ideas in #ImpactInvesting? There are so many innovations happening at the enterprise level - from circular economy to fair trade and radical transparency, to steward ownership, mission-locks and nature on the board... But I've found little in the world of finance that matches this level of transformative potential. So earlier this week, 8 of the best finance minds I know gathered in London to unpack this. Convened together with Harvey Koh & Dr Emre Eren KORKMAZ of OCTD, we explored the latest and greatest ideas, and opportunities for super-charging positive impact through finance. Here's are 8 lessons I captured: 1?? Investor contributions - better assessing how investors go above & beyond to contribute financially and non-financially to impact (true additionality) 2?? Place-based & bio-regional investment is on the rise 3?? Investors are readying to pile into climate-tech & biodiversity 4?? #EmployeeOwnership is rising with the 'silver tsunami' (retiring baby-boomer founders) & investors are working out how to finance this 5?? Some investors are embracing #SystemicInvesting, readying to let go of mechanistic approaches + redefine impact measurement & management 6?? Policy signalling is increasingly important in redirecting investor efforts & capital 7?? Community-controlled funds are being created that reshape local possibilities 8?? Flexibility within larger funds may be possible - where say 10% of funds controlled by institutional investors could be deployed with far greater flexibility in returns & time-horizons towards transformational impact enterprises What a privilege to have the wisdom of people like Nic Gorini, David Krivanek, Rana Zincir Celal, Yasemin Saltuk Lamy, Jess Daggers, PhD, Harvey Koh and Dr Emre Eren KORKMAZ in the room to explore the big ideas in finance. Ultimately, a deep redesign of finance is central to getting into the Doughnut, and reversing this alarming picture of overshoot on planetary boundaries, and shortfall on life's essentials. We're ready for the next generation of ideas in finance to be rolled out.

During Week 6 of our collaboration with U.S. Bank, our focus shifted towards impact finance, presenting an insightful exploration into the realm of finance with a purpose. Engaging with U.S. Bank's Impact Finance team was both enlightening and inspiring as we delved into the intersection of financial strategies and social impact. The discussions and learnings from the Impact Finance team were invaluable, providing a deeper understanding of how financial initiatives can create positive change and contribute to societal well-being. Exploring concepts such as sustainable investing, social entrepreneurship, and impact measurement broadened our perspectives and reinforced the importance of aligning financial goals with social responsibility.
