Explaining what an Applications Specialist does can be quite the challenge! In hospital settings, usually, I refer to myself as a ‘rep’ to avoid confusion around my official title. Often I find myself simply explaining my role first: I train radiographers and doctors on x-ray equipment, specifically mobile and fixed c-arms. If someone breaks a bone or has a heart attack, one of the systems I provide training for is sure to be involved. For those of us in the field, being an Applications Specialist means a mix of troubleshooting, training, and optimising software applications to meet our customers’ needs. It has certainly been rewarding seeing customers master their system and to see patient outcomes change due to the latest technology available. Before this, I was a radiographer. Interestingly enough, when I mentioned that, someone thought I was a DJ! ?? Moments like these highlight the diverse perceptions and misunderstandings about different professions. For the record, as a radiographer, we work with medical imaging, not mixing tracks! ?? To all the Applications Specialists and radiographers out there, how do you explain what you do? Share your funniest misunderstandings in the comments! Let’s celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of our roles. ?? #ApplicationsSpecialist #Radiographer #TechLife #WorkHumor #CareerJourney #AttitudeofGratitude2024

I couldn't agree more with the directional aspirations of the linked article and, while I absolutely love the professionalism and professional-pride that is infused throughout this editorial, I think it has internalized the message that MRI safety is (mostly, if not exclusively) the responsibility of the MRI technologist. Growth in MRI complexity and efficiency pressures have almost entirely been absorbed by MRI techs, and I'm reluctant to accept the implicit suggestion that repair to MRI safety situations should also fall (mostly, if not exclusively) to the MRI techs. Yes, there are huge voids where there should be standards in the MRI safety training of technologists, but let's not forget that *today* the ACGME (which sets minimum training requirements for medical residencies) requires *zero* MRI safety training for diagnostic radiologists. And as for radiology managers with budgetary and personnel authority, what are their MRI safety knowledge minimums? Should the clinical and operational heads of an MRI service also have responsibility for the safety of that service? As a tangent, the editorial, when discussing MRMD, MRSO, and MRSE, while calling for standardization in curriculum / knowledge, oddly ignores the fact that there already exists an international standard in the form of ABMRS certification of those roles. I agree, enthusiastically, with the call for uniform and measurable practices for MRI safety, and nobody is closer to the costs of the lack of uniform practices than MRI techs. MRI tech perspectives are absolutely vital to improving MRI safety, but let's also acknowledge that the owners / operators of MRI services, and the licensed healthcare professionals who oversee the clinical use of these amazing devices (i.e., radiologists) also have direct responsibility for the development and implementation of uniform and measurable practices for MRI safety.
The JMRI just published our Commentary “MR Radiographer/Technologist Practice Issues Surrounding MR Safety”. This is a call to MR-R/Ts to get more involved in research and decision making that guides our profession on standards and will enhance MR safety and increase career satisfaction. Thanks for the collaboration on this Maureen "Mo" Hood, Vera Kimbrell, @Titti Owman, and Sony Boiteaux some of the members of the ISMRT safety committee. Behind every accurate diagnosis is a team of skilled professionals, and radiographers are at the heart of it all. As a student radiographer, I’ve come to appreciate how much precision and care go into capturing images that guide life-saving decisions. From identifying fractures to detecting life-threatening conditions, radiographers play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right treatment at the right time. Radiography isn’t just about machines; it’s about contributing to the bigger picture of healthcare with expertise and compassion. Quick Tip: Did you know that during X-rays, radiographers ensure minimal radiation exposure by following ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles? This keeps both patients and healthcare workers safe. What’s one thing you wish more people knew about this field? Let’s discuss in the comments! #radiographyprofession #Radiographystudent

Many patients at our new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre will require a visit to the new Imaging Department ?? The team, who have been busy with their additional digital radiography training, are looking forward to providing diagnostics in the new X-ray area. The new area will strengthen the resilience of our emergency service out-of-hours and advances in technology will improve patient flow. Radiographer Vibhuty Arya (second left) said, "I'm looking forward to helping patients here in the new UECC. I'm a tech enthusiast, and the new rooms and equipment are great. "The new art vistas in the spacious rooms, such as the woodland scene in this room, are lovely to look at and will help patients relax - having an X-ray can be quite nerve-wracking for some." #ScarboroughUECC

Remember Find a Radiographer is not your average job board! We are a job advertising platform with some very unique differences, which really set us a part from the general job advertising websites..... These differences include: (1) Specific to JUST the Radiography industry - which Radiographers just love! (2) We offer 7 locations of Ad exposure: which includes our website job listing page + the MULTIPLE social media pages of 'Find a Radiographer' ! (3) We have THOUSANDS of Radiographers who follow us on social media, including those Radiographers who are currently 'happily employed' - this is great news for any advertiser as it means immediately whenever an Ad is placed with us regardless of time, your Ad will be displayed to ALL Radiographers out there (not just the ones 'actively' looking for new work) (4) The idea of informing / advertising to ALL Radiographers Australia wide is wonderful, as its the ONLY WAY to really get the attention of that 'perfect Radiographer' out there who is already 'happily employed' because they will never be going to the general websites to see other positions - however with us, because they have connected to us & are following us, our positions will simply 'pop up' on their social media feed so that they are ALWAYS EXPOSED to current job opportunities, where you just never know which Radiographer just might become interested in your advertised position after it 'comes to them'. (5) Our business model exhausts lots of time, money & energy to constantly educate / invite / connect & engage with more & new Radiographers which is why our social media number count is always rising. (6) A part from our job board we also have a very handy feature where Radiographers can register 'any days' off on our website, which allows them to be a part of our 'Urgent / Random request service', in case another practice desperately needs a Radiographer to fill-in as once off on their day off! for either the: same day/ next day or any random day ahead - again Radiographers love this, which in turn exposes them to our job listing page too! .... So place an Ad with us today - on a job board which specific & is something different! #radiographer?#radiographers?#radiology #xrays?#mri?#ctscan?#asmirt
