On October 23 Maryland Forward Party hosted a public forum to discuss Question H, a ballot measure in Baltimore that would shrink the City Council size in half, from 14 districts to 8. We were honored to host our panel experts: Jovani Patterson (PEACE) Lawrence Grandpre (LBS Baltimore) Zac Blanchard (City Council Primary winner) Evie Harris (Community Activist) Lois Hybl (League of Women Voters) Andy Ellis (Baltimore for Democracy) The format of the panel discussion was different than most traditional panels or debates. Together we focused problems, not yet on solutions. To better understand the nuanced details regarding the size of our city council, we needed to first step back and understand the potential problems associated with this topic. By identifying and then prioritizing these problems first, we can then start targeting the right problems with focused solutions. Link to the panel discussion recording: https://lnkd.in/eDiCfCqH

Friends and advocacy leaders: Advocates who are comfortable are more effective, right? Majority in the Middle started Silly Question Saturday to help demystify the #mnleg legislature, and get people more comfortable with navigating the literal halls of power. We're hosting three events at the capitol this fall, and they're free to attend. People just need to sign up ahead of time. If you have volunteer community advocates -- or clients, or students, or staff, or whoever -- who could use a way to get more comfortable in a judgement-free environment, this could be a good opportunity for them.
