That takes an extraordinary level of confidence. Typically, we fumble our words or say something like we need to check with the product. Not Ferris, he is so confident he agrees to be an adult there is no way in the world he can impersonate. It isn’t enough for Ferris to have someone calling into the restaurant asking for him. He takes it a step further and stages him calling the police to report the restaurant. The easiest solution for the ma?tre d' is to just ask for proof of identification. But Ferris has designed a solution that not only confirms his identity, but he ends up getting a free meal out of it as well. Look, I'm not saying that SEs are imposters and need to lie to sell their products. But I am pointing out that if we had as much confidence and could think on our feet as fast as Ferris, our demos would be much smoother.

I have been getting more involved in studying crowd management and crowd science, but let’s talk about crowd engineering. Take concessions for example. How do you maximize efficiency of sales? People need to know where certain concessions are located. This helps prevent that chaotic circulation within a crowd when patrons are looking for their favorite venue food choice. You need to have straight lines and not a bunch of crowd circulation in front of the concessions. At food stands the menus should be simple and not elaborate. This will prevent patrons from taking too much time deciding what they want. You can shave off several seconds which can effectively double the sales at a concession stand. Take a bottoms up beer dispenser. Servers can serve more items in less time which can also increase sales. More food for thought. #salesrevenue #venuemanagement #eventservices

Becca and I stopped by the local drive-in and got a root beer float the other day. I always take home some root beer by itself when we go. You can see the product in this video. B & K Root Beer Stand is one of those old school drive-in, eat in your car type places from the 50’s and 60’s. When your product and your brand are so good and so old, You can sell your it in clear plastic milk jugs, And people still know what it is. B&K has been in business for 85 years. This is an amazing accomplishment for ANY businesss. Average age of a Fortune 500 company? 15 years. That’s an amazing figure to me. That means there are things I can learn from a business like B&K that I can’t learn from one of the big companies. IMHO, the first place to start is the product. It’s the best root beer I’ve ever tasted, and that fact has kept me coming back my entire life. Literally. When Becca and I bought this house, one of the deciding factors was its proximity to our B&K Rootbeer Stand. No joke. It wasn’t the most important thing, but it was a deciding factor. Two weeks ago we attended the Craft Brewers Conference in Las Vegas, one of the longest running and biggest craft beer events of the year. I heard repeatedly from other vendors that the show was “slow” for them and that “traffic was down” this year. The craft beer market isn’t what anyone would consider a hot market anymore. The days of easily posting 20%-30%, and in our case, even 500% growth years by just showing up and collecting orders are behind us. But we had our most successful CBC ever. Why? Because we work to provide value at these events…not just ask for money. Here’s how we did that this year: ??Location, location, location—we were fortunate enough to land a prime spot just inside the main entrance to the expo hall. If attendance is down, you better make sure you get the traffic. Spending 60% of the money for 10% of the results is a bad strategy. ??We created an interactive experience in our booth to allow folks to play with our machines, see how cans are made, and actually use our products. Wouldn’t you be more comfortable spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars if you’d actually tried the thing you’re buying? ??We seek to teach and inform, not just try to “sell”. I love asking questions about what is keeping our customers up at night…and then providing any insights or experiences we have that might alleviate that pain. ??♂?To that end, we didn’t just send 11 sales people to the show. We also sent engineers, tech support, canning line operators, and executives—the ones that have actually done the work and solved the myriad of problems our customers face. We have people stop by our booth every year just to chat and access the canning brain trust. That’s unreal value…for FREE. ????We’re not romantic. We love beer. But consumers tastes are shifting and beer isn’t paying the bills like it used to. We’ve worked hard to ensure we have solutions for our customers as they adapt to this new age of beverage. Once a year we roll out all our machines and hit the floor of the Craft Brewers Conference and Brew Expo. It’s one of our favorite events of the year and a rare chance to see so many of our brewing customers from across the nation (and world). Thanks to everyone who stopped by today. The North Carolina State University Wolfpack is 37,800+ students, 2,400+ faculty, 7,100+ staff, and 250,000+ living alumni. We educate more North Carolinians than any other university and, according to Payscale, our graduates take home the highest average starting and mid-career pay among graduates of all public universities in the Carolinas, leading to more discretionary income. And, as you can see in this Triangle Business Journal blurb, we love to spend it on cool NC State-branded things (and also beer, including officially licensed beer ?? ?? ). While we won't know the full brand licensing/partnership/collab impact of North Carolina State University's March Madness success for several weeks (and well beyond), we have certainly gotten a great reminder of the size, loyalty and passion of our Wolfpack over these last couple weeks. Most of all, we are hopeful licensees, retailers, and other current/prospective brand partners have taken notice of what we have known (and the data has supported) for quite sometime...there is great strength in the 'Pack and the value of our brand is on the rise with great upside across the state, country and world.
