Every bridge we build is slightly different, which makes it the perfect analogy for The Lekker Network. One of the main facets of being a founding member of this great network is that we create pathways for South African entrepreneurs spread across the globe to reach each other. Building a bridge is the perfect analogy because each situation is unique. Every partnership will look different and have a specific reason for existing, making it exciting. Sometimes, crossing that bridge can be shaky, but it builds character and gives you a chance to advise those behind you, making the trip less frightening. Other networks are much wider and branch into different directions and opportunities, leading to new journeys you didn’t expect. Most importantly, none of these bridges will lead to dead ends. NETWORKING TOGETHER FOR A BETTER WORLD #theartofcollaboration Reality is not a thing in itself – reality is a network of relationships between things. And relationships are enhanced through cooperation, mutuality and reciprocity. Because of this age-old observation, we created families, tribes, communities and countries so that there would be frameworks conducive to cooperation and practical ways of bonding and working together. According to Indian philosophy the Earth and Nature are Indra’s net. This is the network of all species, humans and other than humans. Each knot of this network is knotted with a diamond. Each and every individual being is a diamond in which the entire network reflects; thus every individual being is a microcosm of the macrocosm, so we are all connected, related and bound together. Even in the world of commerce and business we created companies for people to join together and support each other for their mutual advantage. The French word for ‘company’ means ‘sharing of bread together’, and the word ‘competition’ means ‘striving together’. I wonder then how we got the idea that competition means working against one another and that this is somehow good for anybody! I think it was in the era of colonialism that the meaning of the words ‘company’ and ‘competition’ changed. In the age of expansion and in the search for new lands and natural resources abroad groups of people (and later countries) started to think in terms of possessing and then protecting the land and the natural resources they acquired against some other groups or governments who may have had their sights set on the same sources of wealth. Thus the words ‘company’ and ‘competition’ became synonymous with secrecy, separation and self-interest. The UN has declared 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives; therefore it is high time that we revisited the true nature of reality, and shaped our economies on the principal of mutually supportive networks, systems and relationships where competition and cooperation, companionship and relationship sit together comfortably. There is no need to have conflict between private good and public good, between individuals and societies, or between self-interest and mutual interest. Because our thinking and practice have become so unbalanced in favour of competition in the wrong meaning of the word, we must now highlight the importance of cooperation and show that working together and cooperating with each other is a better and more successful business model than working against each other. The purpose of the economy is not just making profit for one group at the expense of another but to create the personal, social and cultural wellbeing of all humankind. Satish Kumar

This will help me evaluate and improve at WeCan - Women Entrepreneurs of Canada Network . 1.With so many events happening now both in-person and online, what is it that you value in them? 2. What are you looking for in a supportive business growth oriented community? And a bit of a background to the questions above: I have been asked yesterday - is the goal of your events networking or learning? And I confirm that it is both! And may I be bold enough to suggest that we are taking networking and learning to a bit of a different level during our regular monthly event? You can expect deeper connection and deeper learning (well to the extent possible - we have 90 minutes for learning and 90 minites for networking). From what we hear so far its a very enriching experience. I had a feedback from our attendee who is a regular at Calgary events and she assessed our event as one of the two best in Calgary (and compared us not only to the events of similar pricepoint but to a higher cost events). However, we are not in event industry, we are in the mission of building a supportive community for entrepreneurs of all stages and industries. Networking in Hong Kong doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s how I’ve been building connections in both cities: 1. ?????????? (Hong Kong Trade Development Council) → Organizes international exhibitions and conferences to create opportunities for global SMEs and facilitate connections with China and other markets. → I've joined the HKTDC network for their upcoming events. Setting up a company profile can improve the company’s visibility to potential clients and partners. 2. ?????????? ???????????????? ???? ???????????????? (My personal favorite) → These events are ideal for meeting other expats with similar cultural backgrounds. The Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong brings together the Latino community. → A great way to build a social and professional network. 3. ????????????????, ???????????????? ????????????, and ?????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????????????? → Professional groups like "Expats in Hong Kong" or "Singapore Business Network" make connecting easy. → Meetup is also a go-to for finding events based on your interests. → Launchpad Venture Group offers Masterclasses and networking events to help foster business connections, perfect for anyone wanting to grow in the entrepreneurial scene.

?? We can't agree more with Anne-Marie that innovation and creativity don't come from working in silos. You need to be a part of an active and engaged community where everyone is sharing their ideas and growing together. According to Anne, we still have some work to do when it comes to nurturing good ideas. Everyone is still working in silos and we cannot solve problems in silos. There can be several benefits of working together: ?? You share ideas with each other. ?? You keep on making everyone better in the team. ?? You network and build strong relationships in the same community. That's why industry needs to work better with the Universities, Government and entrepreneurs. And that will ultimately direct our energy in the right direction towards solving the top community problems. Anne goes a step further and highlights the importance of coopetition where the competitors need to collaborate.
