What dystopian world do these people @Onward live in? Not mine, it's the stuff of highly satirical drama, absolutely bonkers. "The report by Conservative think tank,?Onward, proposed that only the best-performing universities should be allowed to issue student visas. Titled A?Conservative Economy,?the report went on to suggest the complete abolishment of graduate visas and only allowing the best-performing institutions to sponsor?visas for PhD students. Higher education funding should “focus much more on STEM, with support for purely academic subjects focused on high-quality institutions and provision”, outlined the report. It also stated that “lower-quality institutions should be repurposed to focus on vocational, technical and applied learning with appropriate public funding, such as through a lifetime learning allowance”.

The corporatization of universities has led to a concerning consequence: the highest concentration of international students globally negatively impacts Australia's higher education system. "Centennial expects new international enrolments to drop by about 5,000 students, 43% in the current academic year alone." Canadian colleges experienced the most significant drop in approval. In the first ten months of 2024, fewer than 91,000 permits to study were approved for international students, compared to more than 210,000 in 2023.
