IAF EARTH OBSERVATION SYMPOSIUM (B1) 75th International Astronautical Congress I am very pleased to share the good news that my paper titled “Major Challenges and Opportunities to Accelerate Space-Based Earth Observation Activities; A Case Study of Türkiye” has been accepted for presentation at the 75th International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy, on 14-18 October 2024. This paper provides a broad overview of Turkey's efforts to enhance its capabilities in space-based Earth Observation activities between 1996 and 2023. It highlights the country's significant achievements, successful projects, collaborative endeavors, challenges faced, and milestones reached in advancing its space capabilities. The study also assesses the progress made in the first decade and outlines the key steps taken to modernize the Earth Observation capacity infrastructure. This innovative approach to capacity-building in space for developing economies has paved the way for the establishment of a space agency in Türkiye. We will be very happy to meet all friends and colleagues at this worldwide unique congress in Milan. Making a mark on Turkish Space History. #IAC2024 #Space #EarthObservation #ResearchturkSpace

Exciting news! ?? I am thrilled to announce that me and Sophia Wellman's paper on an SRAD Capacitive Level Sensor for Propellant Measurement of a Liquid Rocket has been selected for the 75th International Astronautical Congress, organized by the International Astronautical Federation. The paper is written in cooperation with our rocketry team Propulse NTNU ?? The capacitive level sensor provides real-time data on fluid levels, hereby enabling optimal fuel consumption, reducing waste and enhancing overall efficiency. This not only reduces the environmental impact of space missions but also contributes to cost savings by maximizing resource utilization ?? Furthermore, the implementation of capacitive level sensors enhances safety and reliability during rocket operations ?? Accurate monitoring of the fluid levels prevents potential hazards such as fuel leaks or engine failures due to inadequate propellant supply. Overall, the capacitive level sensors contribute to sustainability of space missions by ensuring the integrity of the spacecraft and the surrounding environment. We will be presenting at the space propulsion symposium ?? See you in Milan! #IAC2024

?? Cities without space technology: ? Blind Urban Planning: Without satellite imagery, planners would struggle to optimise land use, leading to inefficient and unsustainable city growth. ? No Early Warnings: Natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and wildfires would catch cities off guard, increasing damage and loss of life. ? Environmental Blind Spots: Tracking pollution, deforestation, and climate change would be far less effective, leaving cities vulnerable to environmental degradation. ? Chaos in Mobility: Without GNSS, modern transport systems, traffic management, and navigation would collapse into inefficiency. ? Resource Mismanagement: Critical systems such as water distribution, energy grids, and agriculture would lack the precise data needed for sustainable management. Looking forward to connecting with anyone attending! #ESA #ESASpaceSolutions #ESABASS #SpaceTechnology #SmartCities #urban #FutureGreenCity #GreenCities #UrbanSustainability

Even the "lightest travellers" (and I don't see my partner's name in that list ....), need to rely on local resources, during they trips: at least air, and often water and food. The longer is supposed to be the trip, the higher will be the request for authonomy from supply. Long-term #SpaceExploration will be enabled by In Situ Resources Utilization #ISRU. We will talk about it, the "what" and the "how" (the "why" is already very clear), with a great group of panelists, at the Plenary Event organized by International Astronautical Federation at #IAC2024, on October 15th, in Milan ! I will also report about the initiatives of the Italian Space Agency - Agenzia Spaziale Italiana in this critical field and in particular about #ORACLE project, for Oxygen/water extraction from lunar regolith, currently in progress with Politecnico di Milano (industrial partner coming soon, too). See you soon in Milan! S.
Join us for the IAC 2024 Plenary Events! The IAF is excited to invite you to an engaging Plenary at the 75th International Astronautical Congress IAC2024:?Value of Resources: Recipe for In-Situ Resource Utilization on Space Frontiers ? ??Date: Tuesday, 15 October ?Time: 13:45 - 14:45 CEST ??Location: Auditorium, Level 3, South Wing, MiCo Convention Centre ? This plenary session?will explore the cutting-edge developments in In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), with a focus on expanding space frontiers through international cooperation and sustainable practices. As we venture deeper into space, the need for self-sustaining solutions becomes critical, and this plenary will address how essential resources like oxygen, water, and construction materials can be produced on the Moon and Mars.
