Thailand heatstroke kills 30, govt warns Bangkok could feel like more than 52°C - https://lnkd.in/gXWTxJ4B Many/most proteins denature above 41°C. The fallout of climate change is multifaceted and also encompasses infectious diseases - Sharing a review we had the privilege of working on - with a focus on Asia. It’s a not if, but when a new Disease X arises - the tempo of emergence of new infectious diseases (Disease X) and older known ones are being accelerated by climate change…and Asia which has historically been the most population dense area in the world and where multiple EIDs have emerged over the years is a place which also will be disproportionately hit by climate change … ————————————————————————- Climate change, particularly increasing temperature, changes in rainfall, extreme weather events and changes in vector ecology, impacts the transmission of many climate?sensitive infectious diseases. Asia is the world’s most populous, rapidly evolving and diverse continent, and it is already experiencing the effects of climate change. Climate change intersects with population, sociodemographic and geographical factors, amplifying the public health impact of infectious diseases and potentially widening existing disparities. In this narrative review, we outline the evidence of the impact of climate change on infectious diseases of importance in Asia, including vector?borne diseases, food? and water?borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance and other infectious diseases. We also highlight the imperative need for strategic intersectoral collaboration at the national and global levels and for the health sector to implement adaptation and mitigation measures, including responsibility for its own greenhouse gas emissions. https://lnkd.in/gMG_MSF3 Amanda Zain Lynette Shek Sapna Sadarangani

Join us at the “Preventive Health Conference - Just Transitions”, organised by the EWUU alliance - institute 4 Preventive Health (i4PH) on November 21, 2024. Amid rising anthropogenic threats, increased longevity, and the escalation of chronic conditions in later life, transitioning from curative to #preventive #healthcare is essential—a sentiment widely acknowledged. But is it as simple as “just” that? During this conference, we will explore what steps are truly needed to achieve the necessary transformations. What #resources and #collaborations are essential to drive this change? How can we ensure that these shifts are equitable and do not exacerbate existing health disparities? In other words, how do we ensure these shifts are “just” for everyone? Roel Vermeulen, Scientific Director of i4PH, will be one of the speakers at the conference. The institute 4 Preventive Health (i4PH) part of the alliance between Eindhoven University of Technology, Wageningen University & Research, Utrecht University, and the University Medical Center Utrecht (EWUU alliance (TU/e, WUR, UU, UMC Utrecht)). ??Date: 21/11/2024 ??Time:?09:00 – 17:00 ??Location: Jaarbeurs, Utrecht ???Language: English Curious to learn more about the program, speakers, and how to secure your spot? https://lnkd.in/eY73SbUP

The?World Filtration Institute 2024 Annual Virtual Conference?brought together global experts to explore innovative technologies, sustainability practices, and the critical role of filtration in health and the environment. We were honored to have our Principal,?Dr John McKeon, open the session on?“Sustainable Filtration for a Healthier Indoor Environment.”?His presentation,?“Bridging IAQ and IEQ Metrics with Health Outcome Metrics,”highlighted how health-based metrics like biomarkers are transforming the way we understand and improve indoor air quality. The conference also featured groundbreaking insights from experts like?Dr. Iyad Al-Attar, who explored filtration advancements in a post-pandemic world, and?Dr. Mark Cree Jackson, who provided critical perspectives on PM2.5 and infectious aerosol filtration. Their contributions showed the importance of filtration in addressing today’s most pressing public health challenges. From?AI-driven solutions?and?nanotechnology innovations?to discussions on?ISO standards?and?sustainable materials, the event showcased the immense potential of the filtration industry to drive global change. As Dr. McKeon reflected, #WFI2024 was a remarkable platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and reaffirming the essential role of filtration in promoting health and sustainability. State of the Art Lecture #ICS2024 by prof philip van kerrebroeck about the continence health problems in the EU and the unknown economic burden of urinary incontinence in the EU. Early continence assessment has a great potential to reduce the economic burden through prevention and management. Think healthcare costs, but also lost productivity at work and waste disposal coste. 69 billion euros in 2030 (cost of incontinence is 1/3 of the global oncology costs!). Therefor, the campaign "an urge to act" was launched and a manifesto was developed with recommendations to politicians. Aim: to develop awareness and improve incontinence care. #continencehealth International Continence Society (ICS)
