ILC Report launch on mental health and healthy ageing: Mind the age gap? Serious mental illness can affect anyone, no matter their age.? ? In fact, new research published today by our partners at International Longevity Centre - UK, and funded by Boehringer Ingelheim, found that older people face increased barriers to accessing the mental health care they need.? ? Increased longevity is reshaping our societies and our demographics. But in order to fulfill the opportunities of longer lives, people must be able to access to mental health support at any stage of their lives.?? ? As part of our unwavering commitment to paving new paths for people living with serious mental illnesses, we are proud to support the Mind the Age Gap report, developed under the ‘Mental Health Matters’ project.? ? New ILC research published today finds that serious mental health conditions are hampering people’s ability to live more fulfilling long lives. The ???????? ?????? ?????? ???????report suggests: ?? Older people are less likely to access mental health services due to ageism – although the mental health burden is similar to that of other age groups and treatment has been proven to be effective ?? On average, people worldwide lose over a week (7.2 days) a year to mental health-related disabilities ?? This has huge economic ramifications – 4.2% of GDP is lost to mental health conditions across OECD countries every year To address these issues, ILC urges policymakers to adopt a life course and person-centred approach to improve mental health support across people’s longer lives. Research interviews and roundtable discussions have informed the report’s findings as part of the ILC’s ???????????? ???????????? ?????????????? project, funded by Boehringer Ingelheim.
