Important to know in epileptology ??????
Focal EEG and semiology features are common in Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizures (GTCS) in patients with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy (IGE). How to distinguish them from Focal-to-Bilateral Tonic-Clonic Seizures in patients with Focal Epilepsy? We have validated a simple, clinical decision flowchart. Ictal EEG stat in GTC of IGE patients is rarely focal, and if is so, it is discordant with the interictal focus. Read more about this in the open access paper we have published recently: https://lnkd.in/d7u6KgBp #EEG #epilepsy Maria Vlachou Philippe Ryvlin

The epilepsy community needs your help! The AMERICAN BRAIN COALITION has created an opportunity for you to write your representatives at this critical time to ask them to sign on to support increased funding for the NIH BRAIN Initiative, and to support increases for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Use the link to be taken to a page where you can find your legislator and to a template draft letter that you may edit and send. You can add to this template and ask for NINDS support. Suggested copy to include in your message: "I also ask your support for increased funding for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. The impact of conditions like epilepsy, stroke, headache, and neurodegenerative diseases will continue to grow as the population ages. It is vital to increase support for research to sustain recent advances in treating previously untreatable conditions, to relieve the burden of suffering they cause, and to reduce the economic burden to the nation in care and years of productive and fulfilling lives lost." https://lnkd.in/gygv2HZU
