A very special day for me yesterday.?I had the honor of being the Keynote speaker at the prestigious Joint Claims Executive Association meeting right here in my hometown of New Orleans, LA.??My presentation was on “Claims is the Business of Helping People.”?150 or so claims executives from around the country made for a VERY lively audience, as we discussed the important role we play in helping people put their lives back together. https://lnkd.in/gxJnguQy This was truly an awesome group coming together to foster an environment of participation and encourage responsible leadership. Thanks so much to Donna Romero, Claims Director at Auto Club for the invite. Thanks also to my co-author of the Awesome Claims Customer Service book, Jon Coscia, President of Latitude Subrogation Services, for being so generous by handing out free copies of our book. I nearly didn’t speak to Steven Bartlett... You know, when you don’t muster up enough courage? I know that feeling. Waiting for that perfect opportunity. That gap where you can interject or even wait in a line (which is easier 9 times out of 10). Next time, don’t miss your opportunity. Say hello to that industry leader or a celebrity you have got your eye on! Why? You never know what might happen… Take Steven Bartlett for example… Me and Richard from my team said - let’s go say hello to Steven at an awards ceremony. Just for the sake of it. What's the worst that can happen? We walked to the front of the awards where Steven was speaking to his team, We hovered around and when he was done - we said hey Steven! We talked about all things business, mutuals we know and finally I asked how we could stay in touch. Last year, I had a business challenge. That challenge was something Steven could help with directly, in a big way. Now, Steven gave me his email - so I thought, let me ask him for help - he might remember me (as I’d been sending him a regular newsletter anyway)! Shock, horror - Steven replied in a few hours and connected me up to his team who were able to help. They solved the problem, immediately. It was done. This wouldn’t have been possible if we didn’t muster the courage to just say hello. You never know where a conversation might lead you or when someone can help. So, next time you’re out and about - leave your mark.

And The Award Goes To ?? A great way to be noticed is by getting an award ?? or industry recognition. Not only do you get noticed, it helps establish you as an expert or leader in your field. No matter your business size ?? will boost your visibility. ?? Some awards you can nominate yourself for, and others need 3rd party to nominate you. ?? Carefully research which awards are relevant, both large (national) and small (local). ?? Give full attention to the requirements and deadlines. ?? Highlight your achievements, results, innovations, or impact you or your company have made. ?? When possible quantify your impact. Numbers add weight to your submission. ?? Get a testimonial from a client or respected member of the community. ? When you get that award promote the win across your social media and marketing channels. ? Consider a press release of your award to get further recognition. ? Add the organization logos to your website, email, packaging, storefront, etc. Transparency note: I have no affiliation with Carrie Charles, however, I wanted to highlight a recent award winner, give her the shout-out she deserves, and highlight the value of industry recognition. https://lnkd.in/eHBeRyGS

While everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend, I read Roger Martin’s “Playing to Win.” Oh, and watching my beloved LSU Tigers lose, but?let’s not dwell on that. Back to the book.?He lays out five steps for crafting a winning strategy: 1.?What is your winning aspiration? 2.?Where will you play? 3.?How will you win? 4.?What capabilities must be in place? 5.?What management systems are required? All of these questions can help create a winning social media account strategy, but I want to discuss the fourth one. To rephrase Roger’s question in this context: what are you so good at and have so many resources in place already, that your competition is discouraged from even entering into your space because it would cost too much and take too long? Or, to simplify even further, what makes you unique? It could be any number of things: ? years of experience in your field? ? exclusive opportunities in your career? ? a revolutionary method (although I do have many caveats with this one)? ? access to something others don’t have? ? insider information? ? proprietary data/research? ? combination of unrelated skills The good news is that everyone has something unique to draw from to create a distinctive point of view. The key is to be really, really specific about what that is, so specific that people can’t compete against it. Here’s mine: I’m an Emmy Award-winning Director who spent the last 15 years helping people look and sound their best on camera. After working with celebrities, actors, billionaires, narcissists, psychopaths, and regular everyday people, I’ve learned how to get the very best out of anyone. On top of that, I’ve built a media company with a state-of-the-art studio that helps service-based businesses 3x their results through social media. Now, I’m taking all I’ve learned and teaching those who want help but aren’t ready for one-on-one coaching from me and my team. Your homework is to figure out what that thing is for you. If you don’t know what it is, DM me, and I’ll help you figure it out.

????♀? Show Rather than Tell ????♀? When we pitch for new business, we are often so focused on telling our audience about our qualifications and achievements... ?? We share the size of the deals we handle ?? We tell the names of impressive clients ?? We rattle off our win record But, how much more impactful would our pitch be if we actually showed our audience our capabilities... ?? Showed them some intricacies of complex deals we've handled ?? Suggested that they connect with some clients who work with us ?? Presented information about cases we've won and how we won them Actions speak so much louder and mean so much more than a mere "pitch"... #upwardstride

IT'S PARTNER AWARDS SEASON! You get an award! You get an award! Just kidding. You only get one if.... 1) You are the best. ?? 2) Your customers and other partners nominate you! Also I guess you mom/dad/bff/child? We'll take all the recognition of your work into consideration. ? 3) You are a Cin7 partner! All other platforms, I sadly do NOT hold the power to give you awards for... but I'm happy to pretend and make you one out of paper and yarn at Summit if that will make you happy. ?? For our partner community - you all know this is one of my favorite parts of the year. Getting to shine light on the amazing work you are doing is such a privilege. And you all KNOW I love a cheesey moment to talk about how much we value you & your contributions to our client's success. So let's get those noms rolling. If you have a Cin7 Partner who has impacted your business this year, shout it from the rooftops! (or ideally into the form in the link). If you are a partner - cannot wait to see how you shine again this year. https://lnkd.in/gpxwK2_m

How much do people really need to be seen? Attended a packed industry event recently which included a CMO panel discussion followed by Q&A. This was the the third type of event I attended in person where someone posed a "question" that was actually a vain attempt to sell their wares through a cocktail of criticism/preaching of the panelist's media tactics. My fear is great industry leaders will no longer attend events with these types of people in the audience waiting to pounce... Do you remember when heckling comedians escalated to physicality? In a previous instance (different panel, similar approach), an audience member lambasted a person on stage, criticizing their website and CX so viscerally that another audience member (good human) came to the guest speaker's defense, chastising the rude individual. Please, please, please, do not treat Q&A as your personal platform and above all... just be human. #human #achievemore
