World Anemia Awareness Day gives us an opportunity to discuss what can be done to prevent and treat anemia. 40% of pregnant women worldwide are anemic and postpartum anemia is a significant contributor to peripartum morbidity. Intraoperative blood conservation is an option to prevent postpartum anemia but is underutilized in Obstetrics. The HEMAsavR allows clinicians to collect shed blood during vaginal deliveries and c-sections to help clinicians recognize hemorrhage, quantify blood loss, and return washed autologous blood back to the mother, making it an effective tool to manage postpartum hemorrhage and anemia.
