Olympic infringements: on your marks... set... ?? Logan Paul is no stranger to controversy or US lawsuits. His drinks company, Prime Hydration, LLC, has now been sued by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee for trade mark infringement, unfair competition, and dilution, under US trade mark and consumer protection laws. Central to the claim are certain permanently protected Olympic properties, as well as registered trade marks.?Coca-Cola is the current exclusive licensee for Olympic and Team USA properties in relation to beverages in the US. Prime Hydration is alleged to have used Olympic properties without authorisation, including - for example - in the following ways: “3x Olympic Hold Medalist”, “What makes a true Olympian repping Team USA?”, “Kevin Durant Olympic Prime Drink”, “Celebrate Greatness with the Kevin Durant Olympic Prime Drink!”, “Olympic Achievements”, “Kevin Durant Olympic Legacy”, “Going For Gold”, and more. As Australians all turn their gaze to the Olympics, it is a very good time to remind everyone in all levels of government of the importance of sport in the well being of our country. Sadly, of late, we have had to rely on the foresight of long gone governments for our sporting facilities, as modern governments make sports facilities less of a priority for its citizens. We need more pools, multi-court facilities and open space if our children of today become the Olympians of tomorrow. In this election year, why not ask your local candidate how they plan to improve the access to sporting facilities for the next generation of Australians ?

This can be both a critical but also challenging time for Australia’s two major footy codes at peak bleakness of our southern Australia winter mid-point. At least there’s finally decent snow for those lucky enough to be on the Alps on an extended weekend. But the public pulse sometimes can’t be easily dismissed when both NRL & the AFL permeate across MSM & the reactions. And they’re gaining prominence despite the major issues of the week from a near death Trump, to an appearingly politically dead Biden, a predictably misbehaving CFMEU and across the board cost of living concerns. National Rugby League pillar product - State of Origin - produced a decider for the ages - and no doubt exercised some minds at AFL - Australian Football League - House. Still the AFL have got the last weekend in September pretty much wrapped up! A League TV audience on ‘legacy free-to-air’, Wed night approaching 5.5m means around 1 in 5 of us nationally were glued to the gladiatoral battle. That’s impressive. And had a bloke called ‘Bradman Best’ create a water cooler conversation distraction perhaps even in Adelaide on the Thursday. It is very Australia! With the AFL increasingly mired in a fan and public perception debate vs. a tribunal & community standard view of what constitutes a fair tackle (and where ‘Rugby’ tackle techniques have long being implemented at the elite level anyway to bolster this side of the Australian game); these issues have stirred emotion in a restless community. The online banter on this issue appears large and raw. The comms entanglement for those trying to address reality against a preferred perception of events has produced some fascinating case studies. I think these easily transcend sport into other areas. And I think a clear insight into the ongoing mood of many people ‘around the room’ around the role and actions of some Australian institutions at the present.
